Free tethering on Google Galaxy Nexus possible without rooting?

well, ive been aquiring the same thing lately. have a nex unlocked from google play with tmobile sim. and recently bought the nexus 7. didnt have wifi at the house for few months. so i decided to use theg alaxy nex tethering. ive had tmobile for ten years and never went over my data plan until i did that the first month. tethered to my nex 7. happened again second month. i called and they said regardless ,they were not goin to let me tether anymore for free. its either unlimited data and no tethering,or tethering and get limited data. and they told me it was all monitored by the sim chip some how. idk.

That's what TMo told me, too. But, my point is that if you get truly unlimited (no throttling), and you can, they can tell you no tethering but can't keep you from using your phone as a modem. It's not as if they can turn it on and off on your unlocked GN. Might not get you good karma, but will get you unlimited data (I think).

As an aside that I found amusing, the TMo tech with whom I spoke acknowledged that I could get "truly" unlimited (no throttling), but with no tethering allowed, or regular unlimited (throttled after 5/mo) with all the tethering I could muster. When I used the old "data is data" argument and convinced him to at least not charge me the silly tethering fee, I asked why no tethering with the "truly" unlimited plan. His response was that while it may be good for me, it wouldn't be good for all, therefore TMo won't allow it. Really?
