Freezing problems on Samsung Galaxy S3

I know this is a band-aid solution at best, but I installed an app called WakeLock. Selecting "Partial_wake_lock" has kept my phone from freezing for about a week. It is a bit of a battery drain, but it seems to work.

Best I can tell I think it's Google Voice that might be the culprit on my GS3. Unfortunately, I've merged my Sprint line with Google Voice so not easy to undo and test. Anyone else having issues with Google Voice?

I was having the same problem for about a week. Phone would freeze every now and again. Using apps or generally just surfing , reading emails etc. Damned annoying. Then yesterday my phone went the full day without hanging. Today, touch wood, I have my precious phone back. Hasn't hanged once.

Didn't fancy rolling back firmware via Kies in case it hanged during download and I ended up with a lifeless brick. I uninstalled a couple of recent apps I'd downloaded a couple of days ago but it didn't make any difference to be honest.

May I suggest just hanging in on there. I was getting so frustrated I felt like throwing my phone through the window.

I've nearly had two days trouble free. I don't know what was causing the problem but it seems to have ironed itself out.

Before doing anything drastic, give it about a week, see what happens, give it chance.

I'd be interested to know if anyone else's phone righted after just persevering with it?

Alternatively if my phone starts up hanging again, I'll let you know...

Please any one help I am so desperate I want to fix this problem to enjoy my galaxy s3 . I did the factory reset again and after it has finished I have the freezing problem again :"(

I want to ask what is your galaxy s3 color? Did you change the sim when it started to freeze? We need to know the common sense for this freezing problem?

Mine is brown and I have changed the sim lately

Well it has been a fortnight and still working properly. Mine is the blue S3. Like I said I didn't do anything, just left it be and the problem just righted itself.

One suggestion that I haven't noticed yet is this: For everyone who is having trouble with freezes, power off and reboot into recovery (hold volume up, home and power buttons at the same time), and wipe all user data, wipe cache, and if recovery allows, wipe Dalvik cache, then reboot. Sometimes, a build update, in effort to preserve user data, acts like a 'dirty install' of a ROM. ROMs don't like when the user data is preserved. Old files don't play well with new ones. Give it a try. What's the worst that will happen? It will freeze up more?

I've had this freezing problem myself but in the end I managed to fix it. All you have to do is to reinstall the stock firmware. Before my phone frezed quite a lot. Maybe 20 times a day. I've reinstalled the firmware and so far everything is okay. It passed 36 hours and still no freezing problems. Just type on YouTube how to reinstall the stock firmware on Samsung galaxy s3 and you will find a full tutorial. I hope this will fix your phone as it did mine.

It passed 3 days now and still no freezing problems. The phone is working Great. I hope it stays like this.

I left my phone for two whole days but it came back the freezing after few minutes . How long you left your phone?

Why does it seem to me like every time a new company is bringing out a new phone, their recent models start to crash, or freeze. Same thing happened to me when the S2 came out, my original S Vibrant started to crash. :/ I've had my T-Mobile S3 for about 6 months now, never had a problem. I was starting to believe it would actually beat the new iPhone 5 (Which i had for a week and returned due to the fact that it felt like another 4S with a bigger screen). But recently When I'm listening to Music it freezes for abt 30 seconds. It hasn't gone blank, but the constant freezing is a pain. Only Happens when on music! I've been told by a cocky T-mobile representative that when you upgrade to a new Android Version(Jelly Bean) you should Factory Reset the phone afterwards.

You can call your t-Mobile rep "cocky" if you want, but read through these forums and you'll see the same advice, repeated over, and over, and over. Sometimes a major OTA upgrade works fine, sometimes it screws with the settings some of your apps, or you, have made. The standard advice if your phone starts having problems after a major OTA is to factory reset. It's a last resort, though. If you're only having problems with the music app, I'd go into the Application manager (in Settings), find that app, clear cache, and reboot. If that doesn't fix it, do it again, but this time clear cache and data. If still having problems, I'd delete all the music and reload it, forcing the music app to rebuild it's library.

I don't know why I have the feeling that the freezing problem more common in the colored galaxy s3 and the white ones are better and don't have this problem . After the reset I have the freezing problem more

I really don't think there are any internal hardware or software differences between the white and other S3s.

I have had the same problem
. Tried resetting, sent it back for repair but still the same. I have since removed the Facebook app and I have had not a problem since. Possibly a Facebook app issue and not the s3.

Freezing problems are almost always caused by a bad app, or a conflict between apps. If you do a factory reset, install no apps and don't mess with things like the developer options, and it STILL freezes up, then it's a hardware issue. If it doesn't start freezing up until you install apps, then the problem is caused by an application, not the phone.

I have the S3 since last July 2013. Initialy I used to operate it with Greek carrier Cosmote. The last 2 months I've passed to Vodafone. I have 4.1.2 on and eveything worked smoothly until about a month ago that the phone started to freeze and reboot.
I've tried the wipeout chache option, but without doing factory reset, just the cache. It worked perfectly for about a week. Than I've noticed that the facebook app was not registered, since I had wiped out the chache. When I put on the log in details and faceboo tried to connect, phone crashed immediatetly. Since that point my phone freezes and reboots once or twice a day, and sometimes not at all. I am not sure what is the problem, honestly I thought it was my problem, but when I read all this compalints here I believe that there's something bigger going on. Probably a faulty app or a major issue with the S3 Galaxy that Samsung has kept a seacret from people.
What I want to mention, is that all of my applications are the same and I didn't install anything new on when the problem appeared for the first time. I use the same apps for at least the last 3 months and I have changed nothing on the phone settings. The problem just appeared aout of nowhere.

If it was a "major issue...that Samsung has kept a secret" you'd see hundreds or thousands of posts about it.

You said it crashed when you tried to use the Facebook app. Have you tried uninstalling FB and rebooting the phone afterwards?

i m facing a great problem with the s3 freezing, hanging anytime... during the calls, browsing the phone or kept idle.... some times ti get shut down.
kindly help if possible.

thnx,

Tejas, have you read the 4 pages of posts in this thread, and tried the suggestions already made? If not, go to post 1, start reading, and try the suggestions already given.

If you have, then tell us what you've tried, and what happened when you did. Right now you've not given us enough information to tell you anything different than what's already been suggested.
