Frequent disconnects & low data speeds

Hope someone can help. The past few days, my data has gotten worse, and that's saying something. I was used to getting less than 400 kbps download speeds on 3g (no 4G here) but its gone down to double digits, like 25 kbps, and it now frequently disconnects completely. Uploads and ping are similarly bad, ping is in the thousands, upload is around 12kbps.

I talked to Sprint, they had me update my PRL but there's no change. They told me there's no problems with the network in my area and that what I'm getting for data is all I can expect, until LTE rolls out, which they don't know when will happen ("could be a year" I was told).

Sprint offered no explanations, no solutions, no discounts or offer to waive the ETF, which would be $280 right now. So does anybody think this could be a problem with my phone that could be fixed, or is it just Sprint's network that has gone from horrible to abysmal? Oh, and I was able to get 700kbps-1.2mbps at my house, all the disconnects and ultra slow speeds happen at my workplace (which has no wifi, so I can't even resort to that).

I had something similar happen on Sprint phones before and their tech support department performed what they called a "data re-provisioning" on my phone and that fixed it. You might want to call back and ask about that.

Thanks, if it doesn't clear up soon, I'll try that. Pretty bad that no one at Sprint could offer that as a suggestion. Does the data re-provision require a wipe of all your phone's data?

No. It is just them pushing a setup thing to your phone, remotely, and your verifying a few settings and then updating your profile after they send the change to the phone.

Does anyone else you work with have sprint? Had a similar situation with someone I work with. His gs3 was getting horrible data speeds while I and a couple others were just fine. He contacted sprint online and they did the reprovisioning and it immediately fixed his speed.

I think the fact that whomever you talked to said those speed were "expected" shows that you just got another rep that doesn't know what they are talking about.

I spoke with two customer service reps and a manager in the past couple days. I think getting somebody who really knows something is pretty rare. I don't blame those people, I blame Sprint for not teaching them anything other than how to stick to a script.

I'm still not sure if provisioning would help. If my phone needed it, why would I be getting ok speeds in a different location? Is it possible for a phone to have problems with only one area that can be fixed by provisioning?

Well, I finally got some real answers (I hope). I had the same problems at work as I have all week, but not at home. I called Sprint again, gave my work address, and was informed that there is, in fact, a service outage that they started repairing, and it should be completed before noon tomorrow . So hopefully that's the only problem, since it's what made the most sense in the first place. But for whatever reason, I couldn't get that answer from any of the previous Sprint reps I spoke to. I had also posted on Sprint's forums, where a Sprint "Social Care Team" member responded, asking for the location was having the problems so she could help, but two days later I haven't heard back from her. I PMed her and replied to her comment again, but no dice. I saw she had commented on other people's posts while I have been waiting, including on a post where four other Sprint Social Care people had already been helping, yet I couldn't get one response. Horrible customer service. But the rep I spoke to on the phone today was actually good, though I'll have to wait and see if the problem actually get's fixed tomorrow.
