Fresh 3.2: Which Kernal? Stock or Custom?

So I really enjoy Fresh 3.2 but thought the leaked HTC kernal that it came with would bring with it improved battery life? I am not seeing it, im a heavy user but its worse that using the kingsklick #6 BFS kernal.

Is this the trend others are seeing with Fresh 3.2?

Should I stop sacrificing performance for promised battery life and go back to Kingsklick #6 or #8?

thanks!

The latest version of Fresh 3.2 has the leaked kernel. However, it's the same kernel that's in the latest OTA upgrade.

I just flashed Fresh 3.2 today, left it as is, so I'm on the stock HTC kernel. So far so good. Haven't really been able to gauge battery life... usually when I flash a new ROM, I'm on the phone all day configuring it and what not. I'll probably have a better idea tomorrow.

just nand back up your fresh with stock kernel then flash king's kernel #8 and see how it treats you, if anything goes for the worse just restore your backup. Done.

not helpful. i can trial and error every rom and kernal out there for days, or tap into the experience of a community member who has used a particular combo with success.

I personally could not go back to a rom with fps capped as the leaked kernel has. Personally i am using a netarchy 4.18 cfs uc'ed with setcpu and have pretty good battery life.

X2. I have had good luck so far with the netarchy kernel.

The kernel with the latest Fresh improves battery life dramatically when the phone is on standby. When I use it my battery still drains like always. But on standby... it just stays in the same spot.

Sent from my iPhone j/k!

I'm noticing the same thing too. The new kernel seems to have MUCH better standby power management. :)

Im using fresh 3.2 with netarchy 4.1.9.1 beta and its working perfect...

Kingz put out a fps unlocked new version of the htc kernel however it didnt work on mine due to not having the epson screen. I was getting super sensitive touch responses and black lines...

I have also used kings #8 and it was working fine on 3.2

here is the link to the beta kernel

Im going to be testing Kingz 9 today..

My issue is with people that must overclock then complain about battery life. We have a 1Ghz processor that is plenty fast. I mean OCing 11-12% really isn't worth it IMHO. The FPSwill be unlocked as soon as we get some source code from HTC. I will compile one myself. But I really like the new stock kernel. The standyby is wonderful. I drop 3 maybe 4% in 8 hours while sleeping. Compared to 10-15% with others. I just don't think OCing for such a minimum return and higher battery drain is worth it. And I have gotten better results from the Flipz stock 3.2 kernel than any custom. I am not getting a day and a half but I am getting more than I was. Once source drops we can undervolt and this thing will most likely live longer than we will. ;P

He didn't suggest that you try everything out there. He just suggested a relatively easy way for you to get the answer yourself. He WAS being helpful. He just didn't realize that you were the type that would rather let other people do the work required to get the answer you want.

Beherrschen, I stand corrected, this post was most NOT HELPFUL.

I like to flash ROMs and Kernals without writing the code myself, too.

And I rooted based on the work required done by others to get me the desired result.

So consider where you are posting and how you can be helpful.

Don't mean to start flaming here but, if you like to flash roms and kernels, THEN TRY THEM FOR YOUR SELF.

Asking what _____ will get you better batt or whatever usually will differ depending on who you talk to because people use there phones differently, and want different things like fps unlock, speed, battery over performance etc.

Besides how long does it take to flash a kernel, and restore if its not for you? Not very long... Maybe a few days if your really gonna investigate and compare stuff.

Oh and BTW not everyone lives in this world just to be helpful too you, and there's no need IMO to tell people that they aren't helpful when you were asking for their help and opinions that we are giving solely because we like to help.

trying out Kings BFS #9

I dont get any good Quadrant scores though...kings or netarchy; its not the end of the world but sucks that i get on avg 1100-1300 quad

Im running the Netarchy 4.1.9.1. I ran the 4.1.8 too.
Stock clock speeds its in the 1300's-1400's Quadrant. Bumped to 1152, it soars to like 1693.

Stock Fresh kernal did like 1200's-1300's off the top of my head. I didnt keep it on long because I wanted to tinker.
The FPS unlock is nice though. I get like 54fps now

I don't think everything should be about quadrant scores. I'm using baked Snack 1.7 and I get probably about 1000 max in Qaudrant but overall speed and smoothness of the phone is great. Nenamark1 (the latest from Market) I get 20fps. Gameloft games are smooth and rarely is every choppy. You can tell by running Dungeon Hunter. It's smooth when you move around.

I'm going to have to try Fresh's rom and see the benifits.

The AC ROM sticky comments that uncapped FPS ROMs don't really uncap it, they merely double the refresh rate, which can be damaging to the life of the phone.

Meh, I'll stick with the capped versions.

Wow... Someone feels entitled. I am guessing that we self sufficient people will be paying for your healthcare soon.

There is a difference between asking for help and demanding help. Appriciate it when someone tries to help you. It's the thought that counts. Beggers can't be choosers and all. Didn't anyone teach you these things when you were growing up?
