A few days ago for the first time, my ac app is deluged by bloody adverts. Every 5th article or so is an ad. It makes swiping to the next article a bad idea as one ends up loading an advert. How can I get rid?

I don't think you can get rid of them.
I kinda understand they want some ad revenue, but the way they implemented the ads among the articles feed really turned me off too.
And at least a few other people going by the most recent Google Play reviews...
For now, I've just uninstalled the AC app and am giving Android Authority a shot.

Only a "few days"? I absolutely refuse to visit AC on any mobile device!

It happened after the latest update. I didn't update the app when I saw the log, not a big fan of ads on mobile.

I moved this thread to the Android Central Apps forum for more visibility.

Thanks for the replies. Well that's it ac I'm deleting the app now. You've ruined my favourite app. I'm not paying for data to load sodding adverts. Not only that when swiping articles tend to rewind themselves, as it were, and I see the same few articles again and again. Can I revert to the previous iteration of ac somehow?

seriously Android Central?

I just received an update to my android central app and now I have sponsored ads I'm my news feed? This is insane why do people have to sell out and bombard us with ads all the time?

Competition must be happy with that move from AC, placing ads between articles, lol.

Think their ship is sinking, desperate for money it seems.

What's good Android News Apps worth installing?

(install Android Authority right now)

Re: seriously Android Central?

Yes there are a lot of apps selling out to adds and selling your data just to make a quick buck. It's getting ridiculous. I like AC but do not kill us with ads

seriously Android central

I love your app but why sell out and give us "sponsored" ads. I love the app but I have scrolling through all the ads I see now. I might not be using the app much longer because of this

Re: seriously Android central

You sure it's from AC themselves?

The App and plugin is Taptalk based who can serve Apps over Mobile Nations control

Re: seriously Android central

I use the AC app. Every 2 to 3 stories there is an ad mixed in. When I updated this morning in there change notes it specifically states they added ads.

Ah, there was an update to the App?

Not had one filter through for myself yet, guess they are trying to raise funds again

Re: seriously Android Central?

Is there an option for a one time in app purchase to be rid of them?

To be honest, quality of content has been going down over the years at all Mobile Nations sites. Lately they report news after everyone else, articles are not very well written, tons of paid biased articles that push you to buy something, article fillers about products on their own store (cases, chargers, etc.), click bait titles and other shady tactics...

The recent 10+ redundant unnecessary articles per day on Pokemon Go debacle to increase traffic made me look somewhere else for content but mixing Ads with the news feed is the last straw... as unobstrusively as possible? Come one, I would have accepted a banner at the bottom of the screen as most apps, the way it was implemented is really annoying...

I agree, it's time to uninstall this app and move on...

Just tried Android authority app for first time. Ac is full of stuff for regular android civilians, articles explaining how to save a photo, or what colour phone is best, things of that ilk. I want to read things of interest to Android nerds.

I agree. Android Authority is one of the few websites I can disable all adblocking (Adblock Plus) and allow global scripts to run (Noscript) and not have any problems with loading or browsing the website on my desktop. I haven't tried their app yet, but I will soon. AC is out of control with ads. I know they need to make money, but it's virtually impossible to peruse the website unless you block all ads and scripts.

Unfortunately not. Thing with one-time payments is just that: they're one time. Ads offer a recurring revenue stream. And I assume them offering subscription services would not work either, as I can't really see too many people paying a monthly or annual fee, regardless of how low it is. So I do understand their problem, as they need to make money somehow. But I just don't think they're going about it the right way. I deleted the app yesterday and get my AC articles through Feedly now.
