From a 4 to a 7

After around 10 days or so, the S7E has been enjoyable to use by and large.

As I have with pretty much all my phones, I've turned off a lot of the OEM "features". While I got the Edge, I turned off the Edge feature, for example. In that case I could see myself perhaps using it at some point, but also could see myself never using it. I picked the Edge version of the S7 for the bigger battery. I don't turn stuff off only to save battery, but if I have little to no use for the feature.

Despite loving Moto's take on an Always On Display feature, Samsung's is a big meh. Samsung apps only show, and you can't interact with them. I turned off this feature. Could definitely see myself using it if it gets beefed up. Motorola is the gold standard on this.

Battery life is better than on the G4. GSam shows me at 18 H 0 M on a full charge, with 7 H 58 M SoT.. I was getting somewhere between 14-15 H overall with just over 5 H SoT with the G4, as I recall.

By and large the phone is doing what I want it to. I love having an AMOLED screen again. The extra battery is a big plus. I actually prefer the feel of the G4 in hand. No regrets.

Any verdict so far on the S7 camera? Also, how is the cellular signal strength and call voice quality?
My G4 (SN506 from July) has never given be the number of problems others have had, especially overheating, but I am a light user and turn it off every night. I originally thought that's made a difference in why my phone is, for the moment, still OK, but after reading so many posts about similar user's lightly used phones bricking, I'm not holding my breath :(.

I haven't had many voice calls on it. I ordered pizza locally (Syracuse), talked to my son (while he was in Chicago) for about a minute and had a couple of nearly hour long conversations with my best friend (advising him on his jump from Sprint to Verizon) while he was driving around for work. In all cases the calls were clear on my end and apparently on the other (no requests to repeat myself, etc.). The calls with my friend broke upo a little bit a few times, but he was moving in a car in somewhat rural areas of Upstate NY. So, likely his end of things and not the S7E.

I haven't taken too many pics with the camera. Of the ones I've tyaken, I haven't been blown away. Outdoors, a couple quick shots of my daughter shooting hoops at the playground seem sort of washed out to me. The jury is really still out, though.

I'm an LG fanboy but also considering the S7 Ede for the camera and battery life. I have active kids and lots of blurry pictures. Looking forward to your feedback about the camera. It will help me make a decision. Especially with the G5 around the corner.

I'm not entirely sure to tell what serial number I was sent with the failed replacement I got on Friday from Asurion. Could someone help me out, here? The label is different from the new one I got back in June, and this one was refurbished. Hoping that the one I get tomorrow will do the job within reason.

In fact, the only good things that happened with this unfortunate Asurion experience, is I've embraced Google Messenger and will have four total OEM batteries now. The stock LG messenger is unacceptably lackluster and sluggish. I stubbornly tried pressing on with it since Day One. No longer.

For the price you pay of 1-2 OEM batteries you could do Zerolemon extended battery :D

When I got the G4 I was weary about battery life but when I got it off Amazon for 59$ or something 2-3 days battery life and 8-10 SOT

I think we are in a world where 3000-4000 MAh batteries aren't gonna cut it anymore as they do more and more...we shouldn't have to limit the good functions just for the sake of battery life

OEM and Manufactures need to get on this...or sell bigger batteries after the fact

Are you using a launcher? What do you think of TW? It never really bothered me with my Samsung phones.

Nova Prime is always about the first thing I fire up on a new phone. What I do like about what's left of the TW overlay after Nova is the ability to use Samsung themes. So, my settings backgrounds, etc., are dark or black instead of the default.

I will circle back again with some more feedback as I take more pics.

Here are a few sample pics for you. There is a Pro mode in the settings for the camera. It allows for manually setting options like shutter and ISO, like the G4 has. I shot these in Pro, but didn't alter what the camera set for me. Apologies if any upload sideways:

Here are a few in particularly low light...

The only editing on any of these is cropping on a couple. Othewrise, they're as shot.
