Hey All!

Hope you are all well and having a lovely weekend.

I previously owned a Lumia 950XL for many years and I loved every moment. I ordered a Lumia 950 XL, and don't get me wrong, it is a beautiful phone with a LOT of potential. But there are 2 things that really made me decide to leave Windows Phone.

I've not had an android since the days of the HTC Desire HD, and so got a cheap Chinese Android for £40, and I was impressed by what I could do. It just worked. Windows Phone 10 is amazing (yes I am a fan) but it is a work in progress. And I realised I didn't want to wait. I wanted something that just did what it said on the tin.

That is where YOU guys come in! I need your help! There are certain apps I used on my Lumia and loved, and have not found a worthy replacement on my Z5. If you have any ideas I'd be really really grateful:

  • MyTube - MyTube is a third party YouTube client as (everyone knows) Google refuses to make it's apps for Windows. It is in my honest opinion, better than the default YouTube client on Android. No ads, audio only playback, and also I can navigate out of the app and it continues playing. Even if you lock the screen, it continues in the background. I cannot do this with the YouTube app on Android. If anyone knows of an app that allows this functionality, please let me know.
  • Trakter - is a series / movies tracking site. It has a great app available on Windows which I could use on my laptop / PC and phone. I've not found a decent replacement on Android, which can log into the Trakter service and provide updates etc. Any ideas?

Though I'm really looking forward to android, there are definitely features of Windows Phone I miss. But I look forward to seeing more of you guys and enjoying my stay here.

Thanks,

HH

Hi and welcome to Android Central.

I also am a former Windows Phone user who switched to Android. I made the switch in March 2015.

YouTube will play in the background without ads or offline if one has a YouTube Red subscription. I have the subscription, since it is included with Google Play Music subscription. I canceled my subscriptions to Groove Music and Spotify and opted for the Google Play Music subscription, since it is a better value to me by also offering ad-free YouTube with background and offline capabilities.

I don't know about movie/TV tracking apps, since I don't use that type of thing. However, perhaps other people will have some suggestions.

Welcome to Android Central! Love that you had a Nokia Lumia device! Enjoy yourself around the forums! :)

Hi and welcome to Android Central.

Thank you very much for your reply! Unfortunately, it seems YouTube Red is not available in the UK as of yet. So I cannot use that.

Hello HH, welcome to the forums at Android Central!

I don't use anything like those apps you mentioned.
But I'll ask friends of mine who have switched from Windows to Android.

Welcome to Android Central! The thing about 3rd party YouTube apps is that they usually violate YouTube's terms of service, and so they typically aren't available on Google Play. You might be able to find the apk installer files elsewhere on the web, but it can be risky, since sites that have those files are not vetted for malware.

Hey HH, none of my friends use any apps like the ones you mentioned. Sorry.

No worries, thanks for asking! I found an acceptable series tracker app, though not an official one like the one for Windows. As for YouTube, the hunt continues :P.
I appreciate your help.

Sure, I understand. Even if they didn't for instance remove ads, I still think background playing capabilities is a no-brainer. Or am I being a bit spoilt? Holding a phone with the screen open while you listen to something for 10 mins or longer can be a bit of a pain.

Well... Youtube does all that, you just need the premium service to get there... Google has to hold something back to generate some revenue. Youtube Red is a great service though, and if you get it as part of the Google Play Music premium subscription, you have full access to Google Play Music's stuff as well.

I appreciate that, but as I mentioned to Laura above, YouTube Red is not available in the UK otherwise I would have gotten it.

But it's fine. I'll learn to live without this feature. There's many more much more exciting things to explore on Android.

Thanks everyone for your help!
