From BB to Incredible (Have issues, need help, advice)

I will also switch my storm 2 for the Incredible. I have been a BB owner for years and I am long overdue for a switch. I saw the N1 and was determined to get it but will be getting my Incredible on the 29th and selling my plain hardly customizable Storm 2 on ebay. I will not miss BBM and I have gmail so I will not miss a thing.

lmao i still wouldnt trade my storm 2 for anything but a storm 3 maybe. The addition of the DI is just that, an addition. there are some things that BB does great and some things that android does. I already know a few things i dislike about android from playing around with a couple eris's and 1 droid that people have at work. But i also see what they do great.

I am a very happy and lucky man right now. Just got to play with a demo in my friends verizon store. This phone is insane! I have a Storm1 which I like but this phone is just well Incredible. I left a deposit so next Thursday at 9am I will b the proud new owner of one and keeping my Storm as a backup.

I have a few questions... I will be coming from a RIMjob sh?tStorm also and can't tell you how relieved I am to be getting away from it.

I switched from an original iPhone (couldn't stand AT&T service where I live) and I bought it when it first came out. I am on replacement #4 (now a RIMjob sh?tStorm 2) and it basically is WORSE than the original one because they put all the buttons on the bottom of the screen instead of having them separate so it sends messages and activates the phone, does all kinds of other stuff when you don't want it to while you're typing. It's awesome.

I've been with a BlackBerry for years, before my iPhone... Anyway, here are my questions:

1. INBOX - on the BB, you have a unified Inbox of messages, emails, etc... is this the same on Android? If not, any BB users out there can speak to this? Is there a way to unify all inboxes?

2. EMAIL - I have a Yahoo!™ account, it's a personal one, and a google apps account for my gmail... am I able to receive mail for both of these accounts?

2a. Yahoo! was pushed on the iPhone, is it pushed on Android?

2b. GMail was not pushed on the iPhone at the time I had it so I had to manually check my mail every few minutes or so because my iPhone would not fetch it otherwise. Is it pushed on Android?

2c. How many email accounts are you allowed to have?

3. Keyboard - the RIMjob sh?tStorm keyboards are deplorable, to say the least, but I have found the most success using the SureType™ keyboard. Question: how is the soft keyboard on the Incredible?? Would it at least be better than the iPhone keyboard?

4. Battery Life - the original RIMjob sh?tStorm got me through a day without issue. I check email and messages when I get them and make a few calls per day. The RIMjob sh?tStorm 2 makes it about 6 hours before needing a charge. For the above described usage, what kind of battery life can one expect?

4b. Do Android phones have extended batteries with greater capacities like BB offers?

5. Armor - can this phone be covered in Phantom Skinz or Ghost Armor?

Finally, for those of you who have handled this phone, how is the PHONE CALL quality? I am going to assume that because it is on Big Red that it won't drop calls every other second like my iPhone did on their network...

Thanks so much for the responses in advance and although I will miss the CB forums, I will no miss RIMjob and their complete contempt for their customers.

Is there a way to unify all inboxes? you should have individual mailboxes for each email account along with the "messages" box on BBs. They might be hidden but you have each of them. I use the generic messages folder for some things like facebook, twitter and email but i keep BBM and gtlalk convos out of that folder so its not cluttered.

2. EMAIL - I have a Yahoo!™ account, it's a personal one, and a google apps account for my gmail... am I able to receive mail for both of these accounts? gmail will be push, yahoo will be delayed with a 5-15 minute poll i think.

2a. Yahoo! was pushed on the iPhone, is it pushed on Android? see above

The RIMjob sh?tStorm 2 makes it about 6 hours before needing a charge. 4b. Do Android phones have extended batteries with greater capacities like BB offers?

5. Armor - can this phone be covered in Phantom Skinz or Ghost Armor?

to me you are not familiar enough with your storm based on what i can read from your post and i am sure you could use it better

Im not totally sure on the android email but i know you can get apps and such that will give you push for other emails besides gmail and exchange. I have hotmail so i have been looking for the best way to get push for that service like your yahoo.

Great forum.

Nope, not doing anything wrong. No superfluous apps running. Nothing extra loaded. Always quit my apps. Just a sh?tStorm experience and I am not alone. Hence the 4 replacements.

So, the unified Inbox on my sh?tStorm for email, MMS and SMS is imaginary? Hmm... Ok. I have the separate boxes merged in the options panel. Guess mine must be imaginary.

Oh well. Guess I will have to go play with the phone in person.

I'm 99.9% sure I'm ditching the S2 for the Incredible. Just need to get hands on time with it in the store to confirm my thoughts. The S2 is MUCH better than the S1 was but it's still not on par with what others were offering at the time it was released. Honestly I'm tired of RIM's stale UI's and their unwillingness to do anything about it. I"m so happy some information came out about their new OS over the last week or so. It completely pushed me over the edge. for the most part 6.BLOW looks the same as 5.BLOW. I was hoping for widgets at the very least but no they stuck with the Windows ME edition of mobile phone operating systems.

If nothing else I think I'll give it a 30 day trial and if I like it sell my S2 on ebay and recoup my costs for the Incredible.

I agree 100% I was disappointed in the looks of 6.0. I dont really email much so thats a non issue on the only thing bb does better. I preordered the incredible and will sell my storm if all goes well. If not then I'll take it back and pay $30 restocking fee

I'm probably getting the Incredible and ditching the S2.

That said, RIM has some justification in feeling secure in the enterprise sector. Neither iPhone nor Android have made any real inroads there, and likely won't in the future. Enteprise IT departments simply don't trust either OS and (in the case of iPhone) have no intention of putting iTunes on corporate computers.

That said, I think RIM has issues, as Android can easily suffocate RIM in the consumer market. Also, if WP7 has the type of enterprise capabilities that are starting to be rumored it may kick RIM in that sector.

Just pre-ordered one to replace my storm1. I did the full retail since my ne2 isn't due till July 21, kinda like not being under contract. I will miss BBM and suretype for sure. Google talk will kind of replace BBM but I wonder if it works better on android than on the storm. if it ever lost connectivity it would not log beck in. BBM would reconnect whenever service was restored.

1st Post- leaving the S1 behind

Any idea whether Droid or HTC has some kind of program similar to Blackberry's Desktop Manager? How does the phone sync to your Outlook account for calendar/ contacts, etc?
Also, what are some other good sites/ forums to check out? I usually use Crackberry and BBHybrids for the Storm suff. Anything similar?

I'm not gonna lie. I like Blackberry and my Storm2. I had a Storm1 when it first came out and understand why alot of people dislike it. The Storm2 is sooo what the Storm1 should have been. But that's all in the past.

I still like my Blackberry but I feel they are stagnant. They really need to do something to shake things up and from what has been leaked it doesn't look like they're taking that risk which is rather sad because they will be losing alot of customers to Android, iPhone, and perhaps WinPhone.

I didn't pull the trigger with the MotoDroid because I didn't like the keyboard and I still had high hopes for Blackberry OS. But the recent leaks of OS 6.0 doesn't make me anymore eager for the next Blackberry device.

Which is why I'm getting the Incredible next week. I've been following this device for awhile and I'm finally ready to pull the trigger. I can't wait to get it. XD

I wasn't too impressed on the leak images of OS 6.0 for BlackBerry. Just looks as though they're going to have a different Theme.

Hey guys! First time on the forum. After the headaches I've experienced with my S2 the last few days, I am jumping ship. I've been through 3 x S2s. I'm done. Preordered my Incredible today! Can't wait to get it.

I'm another one migrating from the Storm 1 to the Incredible. My only complaint about the Storm was memory management. My 10-year-old Palm IIIx could run many apps with less storage and no memory leaks - why couldn't the Storm? Other than that, I think I must have have gotten a magic Storm from RIM - build quality is solid, never had a problem that required a replacement of the device, battery life was decent... but it's stagnant at this point now that RIM has EOL'd the device and isn't releasing updates.

Even though I know the pre-ordered Incredible won't be here until Thursday I still keep checking the order status page just in case they ship it early. My wife thinks I have a problem, and I'm inclined to agree with her!

Not sure about the BDM thing. I believe that a member offered a solution to syncing with Outlook. Hopefully either you can find it or a member can assist.

There are couple of other sites that stand out but i rather not say, lol.

Here...

Application Upgrade - HTC Sync 2.0.33

BringTheRain403, you ROCK!!

Edit: the page states that certain devices are compatible (Inc isn't listed).

Probably because it's not out yet. It's not even listed in the support area of their website. If the HTC Desire does I'm sure the Incredible will. from what I've heard it's basically the same phone...

Agreed...I have so many people on my BBM list. It is going to suck to have to get them all to start using SMS to contact me instead of the BBM...I wish there was a way to move BBM over to other platforms.

Yeah, that is the only thing I am worried about. Other than that it seems like it is a no brainer. So how can we get everyone to download google talk and stay logged on all the time?
