From Note 4 to Z3, anyone?

Hello everyone! I'm thinking of getting rid of my Note 4 and getting either a Xperia Z3 or a Nexus 6. Don't get me wrong, the Note 4 is a great device, but for the money, the amount of lag and terrible low-light and indoor pictures and pretty bad battery life is just too much for me.

The most important things for me are:
Battery life (I'm getting between 2-3.5 hours of SOT on my Note 4)
Performance (multitasking. I'm getting a ton of lag on my device when multitasking, or taking pictures, or viewing pictures. Other than that, it's OK. But I use my phone as an email or camera 99% of the time!)
Camera (decent pictures, but how are the pictures of the Z3? I know the initial release had some problems with Superior Auto, but it's been a while... Any changes?)

All the blogs said the Note 4 was the device for me, but over the last 3 roms I haven't been able to fix ANY of these issues. I'm not a rooter, so I would be 100% stock.

How's the Xperia Z3? Are you guys generally speaking happy with it? Has anyone played with the Note 4 and could maybe shine some light on their opinion and experiences? Thanks!

The Z3 has the best battery life of any android phone I have ever used and I have used pretty much every device released over the last three years. Its that good. Performance is very good as well. Obviously its running a last generation processor in the 801. With that said, it does not lag at all. Sony has done a very nice job with lollipop. Very light skin, almost stock.

The camera is where you will be missing the note 4. Its simply not as good. It has no OIS and it makes a difference. Don't get me wrong, you can get some good shots but not as good and consistently as the note 4.

Ultimately the final decision is based in each individual, but if battery life and performance are high on your list, which they obviously are, you will be very satisfied with the Z3.

That's a downgrade. Try a factory reset on note 4 and you will never think about this.

Yeah I've reset it like 3 times, and cleared the cache numerous times. Turned off many apps. Revised the ones I have installed... Yeah, nothing ... :$

I guess I'll stick with the Note 4 for a little longer...

Weird. I have a note 3 and don't get the lag or screen issues you speak of. I've also though of getting the z3 or 4 rather than another Samsung. Maybe it's just for the water resistance but I'm itching for one.

Wondering what magic Sony uses on its phones that Samsung can't seem to figure out, even using the same Android OS sitting underneath? I have the Galaxy S6 and get 2.5-3.5 hours SoT and am really jealous of the Z3's fantastic battery life!

Well, battery size is certainly the main factor. Really, for any phone to have good battery life you need at least 3000mah.

The Z3 is an amazing phone that really is near perfect and even better if you're tied into the Sony ecosystem. I would advise you to get it unlocked however as the poor/very slow support between Sony and T-Mobile has really killed my expectations for keeping this phone for the long run. It has nice sounding front facing speakers, excellent battery life, gorgeous display, you can pair your PS3/PS4 controller with it to play games and of course the benefit of being able to play PS4 games on the Z3 at home is unmatched. The design is simply sleek and premium. The only let down for me (and this is because I came from the Lumia 1020) is that the camera software has not been maximized for its potential. You can get great shots in manual mode but the lack of true manual controls puts a damper on my experience. (most people won't mind) But the camera is still underrated.. Like I said the slow dragging between Sony and T-Mobile is what really makes me regret getting the Z3. I initially chose the Z3 over the iPhone 6 because it had more options like microSD expansion and I thought buying the latest Android flagship of 2014 would mean a quick update path to Lollipop but it is almost June and I am still on Kit Kat. And with camera powerhouses like the Galaxy S6 and the LG G4 with its expansive manual mode, I would much rather have a device that caters to my mobile photography needs rather than stick with an OEM who chooses to disregard those features altogether. When they finally do push the update if at least manual focus and shutter speed controls aren't included, I will probably trade it in for the G4.

Probably not much help but I've come from the iPhone, I've always changed back and forth as I preferred the smoothness with ios. I recently had the HTC m8, but didn't like the battery life and it was overheating and the double tap to wake feature didn't work all the time. So I decided to give the z3 a go, and must admit I can't see myself going back to the iPhone anytime soon. Brilliant device, I'm not a camera fanatic but it sees OK. Battery life is more important for me and it's great, sound quality is OK. Not sure if there are tweaks for further improve the battery life. Overall I'm really impressed. Much admit I'm looking for a case cause it's rather slippery .

Thanks for the input. 😎 but I think I'm going to either stick it out with the note 4 a little while longer to see of they fix anything. If not, I'll be back to decide. And by that time the Z4 could be out, as well as the note 5 and possibly the nexus 6 + haha.

Sounds like a wise move. I do love the Z3 and would recommend it to anyone (and hope the Z4 is even better) - but i'm actually struggling with this device now and it's probably cause ive come from an iPhone. I've started to noticed the 'smooth' transition between app switching is going slowly and its taking me ages to set the device up the way i want it. Guess this is the whole idea of andriod - flexibilty! Anyone coming over from the IOS i urge you to stick with it.

Is the something wrong with your note 4? seems odd you have so many problems.

It seems that all note 4s have these issues:
-lag with multitasking
-lag while reviewing the camera images after shooting them
-poor battery life while using stock roms
-poor camera performance in anything but ideal lighting conditions due to Samsung not allowing us to modify shutter speed, and it doesn't automatically do it either by itself even though the APIs are there... Other Lollipop devices use it... Why doesn't this toptier flagship device? Ah yes, because it's Samsung! Arg. Probably last Samsung device I'll ever own.

I love my Z3, and is even better since it got the Lollipop update on T-Mobile the other day. It really is the perfect do it all phone. I bet taken some great shots with the camera, and like others have said it doesn't lag, has good design, and while the speakers aren't boom sound they're still very nice. And the display is great too, seriously underrated. Really the only knock is that it's an 8 month old phone.

I went from note 4 to z3. I love the z3. Best camera. No lag. Even on lollipop. Note 4 was nice as well. But like the smaller frame.

No iPhone 6 plus to z3 D6616 and better apple sucks

I think you are a little confused.... You seem to have been with android for years..... Then apple for years.... Then hate apple....Then love apple.... Then hate android.... Then love android......

Perhaps you could just ensure that only 1 of the voices in your head posts....

I would say to root ur note 4 I have done that and has resolved lots of problems mainly lag except the transaction from camera to gallery as for battery life I had no problem with average 5 hrs on screen needless to say sold my Note 4.
Why u ask, well I made a good profit on the device and got me the new Asus zen 2, 4g, 64gb absolutely love it and still have cash left over lol
As for Sony I do also have the Sony M4 aqua and its an awesome phone for the money also did run a z3 compact for few months.
Z3 compact was fantastic on battery life and over all experience just bit small I do think going to z3 would he a nice step plus it's waterproof just pick up the magnetic charger.
In the end it's what works for u but do understand what u saying lag sucks and could not be more happy with zenfone 2 it has absolutely no lag no matter what u through at it lol specially after rooting it which I have too.
