I am kinda considering the Nexus device, but I am really hesitant for a couple of reasons.
First, everyone is assuming that it will have no bloatware, but show me a Verizon android phone that doesn't have some degree of it. I have this bad feeling that if Verizon is involved, it will have bloat and quite possibly a skin on it. In that case, aside from the spec upgrade and the newer OS out of the box, it won't be much better than getting a Charge.
What I keep going back to is how Verizon has handled Nexus devices in the past. Many will point out the OG Droid as the first such device (not in name but certainly in execution). The only difference between it and Nexus branded devices is the presence of bloatware. Next we have the Nexus1. It was supposed to come to Verizon but since it had almost identical specs to the OG Incredible, Verizon opted for that so they could basically add anything they wanted to it. After that was the NexusS, which Verizon completely passed on. All of this points to this upcoming device not being a true Google experience device. Bloat added for sure and possibly a skin as well.
As far as not calling it a Samsung phone, that's not really realistic. If it is a Nexus phone Google is simply tellng them what specs they want and posssibly what it's constructed out of. But, if someone doesn't like the construction of Samsung phones, they may not like this one either, unless Google addressed any of those issues specifically.
This is why I am strongly leaning towards the Vigor. I have tried out phones everytime I have gone to upgrade. The HTCs have always come out on top for me. While they don't necessarily win the quadrant tests, they seem to have less lag than the competition (at least when I have tried them all out in the store). I will take everday performance over bench tests that may only happen a few times a week. The other thing that most people point to when shooting down HTC is build quality. Maybe I've just been lucky, but I have never had a real issue with that. The ones that really make me chuckle is when they say the back cover squeaks off and on. Sure it may be annoying, but does it really affect the performance of the phone? If it really bothers you you could always go to a phone that has no chance of squeaking. Say one with no removable battery or ports other than to charge. Cough! i*hone Cough! I'll take the ability to change batteries, upgrade my storage, or ability to roam over a non squeaky phone without those options.
