From WebOS to Android [Tips & Tricks]

I'm also coming from the Pre, and excited to see what Android can offer me.

I was a first day Pre girl, then a first day Evo girl. I was a super-WebOS fan and still like the card idea but the day I got my Evo, I honestly never looked back. I love my phone and the only reason that I am upgrading to the 3D is because I really need more internal memory, want more RAM and the faster, dual core processor. I love the form factor and Android. The only thing I'll miss will be the kickstand.

Trust me, your move to the 3D will make you an Android lover. My phone really does everything that I need it too - there hasn't been a time when I said, "man I wish that app or tweak was available for my Evo, whereas I said it quite often about my Pre (maybe WebOS has gotten better since then though).

No, not really. The homebrew community is the only thing that has helped me survive as long as I have.

The average reformed Pre owner: "#$%$% this POS!! Im going to android and !!, #$#% you HPalm"

The average webOS devotee: "Just be patient" "Specs/apps/features/speed/____ aren't everything" "android is clunky" "it does what i need it to do" "i can't live without cards"
:p

LOL, seriously. The Homebrew community was the only reason I kept my Pre for a year - they were great.

My wife and I are converting after 2 years, 10 Pre Minuses (5 each) and 10 screen protectors (5 each). We are hoping there is an easy way to mod the backcover to go with our 6 Touchstone chargers.

Its a strange thing really. I got my Pre the day it launched. From the moment I flipped it on I was sprung. It was a great phone and I loved how different it was from everything else out there. Then I went through 7 devices all for various reasons of critical failure. Still loved my phone to the point I advocated Web OS to everyone I knew. The past 6 months however have really tested my resolve. I kept expecting Palm/HP to give us Sprint users the news we've been waiting for i.e. the "Super Device". But nothing came. I had a glimmer of hope for the big event but again nothing unexpected there and no news of any Sprint love coming from the company. Even now as we approach the Summer months there is news of other carriers announcing the Pre3 and its quite disheartening. But I recently started to turn my feelings off for the phone that I love. I started to think that even if we do get our Pre3 whose to say that its not a another repeat of no software updates, lack of apps, developer pull outs, and dated/dying hardware with no hope in sight. I kind of feel jilted by HP/Palm and in all fairness it could easily be Sprints fault but its just a tad too late to turn my thoughts on this whole situation around now. I hope Web OS takes off gets a big chunk of the market. Im sure Im not alone when I say that if things turn around for them I might go back.

I will genuinely miss WebOS.

I remember telling my wife what I'd really like to see in a phone and then about 2 weeks later the Palm Pre was leaked. I waited patiently and excitedly for the phone. My wife and I were both launch day adopters.

Two years later and with no replacement in sight, I just can't hold on any longer. I've been through 5 Pre Minus phones. Even this most recent replacement is killing me.

Evo 3D here I come. If there was a refresh of the Epic announced, I'd probably wait for the physical keyboard as I send A LOT of email from my phone, but the time for waiting is over.

I'll be ordering the EVO 3D the first chance I get.

By the way, when I last called Business Care, I was told that I have been given a $75 credit toward an upgrade so long as I order through Business Care. You guys may want to check that out to see if it applies to you as well. So, I'll only be dropping $125 for the phone on launch day.

So AT&T customers got blessed with the Veer. It just came out, got some interesting reviews, none of them screaming "best microscopically sized phone ever!!!" and you can already buy it from Amazon for a penny. That's a good sign that the phone must be flying off the shelves! Yeah, I am being sarcastic.

But...it must be a great phone, even Jon Rubinstein, the man that could carry any of their phones as his personal device, uses the Veer as his daily phone....cough cough...that's what he said on the Engadget show..... Jon...who are you kidding....you know you carry an iPhone or Android phone as your daily driver, I mean really, with that tiny Veer, you can't get any work done!

Enough Veer bashing....

That could have been posted by me and it would be 100% accurate still.

What a damn shame. WebOS was unreal. Probably the best OS I've used on anything, ever. It didn't get nearly the push that it deserved. I'll welcome the 3D with open arms. Only thing is no physical keyboard, which had me thinking about getting the Shift....but whatever, I'll deal with it.

I felt the same way when I had my pre, that I needed a keyboard. Then I got my evo, tried many different keyboards until I found the one that works for me. You have many on screen keyboard choices, you will find one you love. For me it is SwiftKey, after using it for 5 months now it knows what i am going to type with just a few taps. I can not imagine ever using a physical keyboard again.

I switched a couple of months ago from the Palm Pre to the EVO Shift thinking I needed a physical keyboard. Found I never use the keyboard! So now my wife will get my Shift to upgrade from her Pre, and I am am getting the EVO 3D.

Sorry Palm, I waited and waited...

really, I've never seen such a blown opportunity. Palm fans were loyal as hell. Look at the veer, they've convinced themselves it's a phone worh owning. All palm/hp had to do was release a phone every six months and kept those people on board while trying to appeal to the mass market with a non keyboard phone. What do they release after 2 years? A smaller version of a failed phone and a bigger version of a failed phone due "in the coming months"

* * bumb * *

I've seen a lot of WebOS users come to this forum lately so I figure I bump this up for those who haven't seen this. ;)
