Front facing camera is dark in facebook messenger app....help?

[Android Central Question]

Bought new tablet for my moms.....running android 8.1
Front facing camera works fine.....except when i launch fb messenger.
camera is very dark...it is operating but would need to be directly under a work light to see self. I have cleared the camera and messenger caches, and data...no effect!

Ideas? Fixes?

Did you also force stop after clearing data and cache?

Front facing cam works fine EXCEPT in fb messenger...when i launch it goes dark. If i place cell flashlight next to camera window---i can see self, otherwise no go. Light issue! But again...only in FB messenger

Strange , have you tried to uninstall it then install again?

just got tablet today....and downloaded FB and messenger today....so???? I can uninstall and try again.....but judging by ye olde interwebs searches.....this is NOT an isolated issue to me......????

I haven't heard anything in the forums lately about camera going black but I would try that see what happens.

You said you got it from Amazon -- do you mean it's an Amazon Fire tablet, or that you just bought the tablet from Amazon? What's the brand and model name/number? The reason I ask is to see if you can wipe the system cache partition.

It sounds like there's some kind of exposure bug that's specific to Facebook Messenger. You've already tested the front-facing camera in other apps (and not just the Camera app)?
