Froyo EB13 Pre-Rooted, Deodexed, with Clockwork - RFS & EXT4

i wasn't sure what rom to use, but this one i think is all i need....stock eb13 plus the goodies you have included...

a few questions please....

- is there a significant increase in battery life?
- any chance of having the Carrier IQ removed in this rom in the future?

The stock EB13 ROM itself, isn't bad. Right now the only ROMs that have the CIQ removed is ACS/Syndicate who started it, Bonsai 3.0.1 which aided in getting the bugs worked out of it and midNIGHT who is also running it.

I plan on adding it to ACE in the near future for the next release.

As I was saying those are the only ROMs which have the CIQ removed. As far as battery life, any of the custom ROMs are definately sporting better battery life.

Just want everyone to know I was running fine on this setup, but I decided to flash SyndicateROM once the 1.0.1 came out. The first flash took perfectly after a 3x wipe. Pretty painless for my first ROM and it's running great. Gonna be testing battery life over the next few days to compare to what I was getting with the stock deodexed/ext4 setup.

thanks for the reply.... going through all the postings now of all the various roms here.... lots to read, but good stuff

i am currently on the stock EB13, rooted (so i can use 'roam control') and only added the updated camera kernal fix... i am assuming i will have to reapply that fix if i use this rom...no biggy... syndicate and a few others have this fix already included....

i am leaning towards this one cause i didnt want too much modding done to the stock rom, sorta used to my phone now...i know that sounds wierd....lol

probably will do a full wipe of the sd and phone before applying the rom too.... i haven't cleaned up my phone since i own it!

Good morning, first I want to thanks for your assistance and help. I was able to flash my first ROM and actually change the boot animation with your assistance, much appreciated. Another question if you don't mind. My friend's EPIC is currently running Froyo(download from here) and he is rooted. He has Ti back up. He would like to install his first ROM. He does not have CWM. So, being that he played around on his phone, he would like to have a "fresh" start, he wants to do the STOCK FLASH, EB13, pre-rooted with CWM 3. Do you see any problems with that. FYI, I did that a few times between ROMS and all seems well, THANKS!

No go right ahead, that is what I would recommend is doing the all in one Odin package. Just let him know when it comes time to restore his apps/data I HIGHLY recommend only restoring Data with Titanium Backup and downloading the apps manually since you are switching versions of OS. Even though its Froyo on Froyo its still a change.

EXT4, and yes I would click repartition. I would get the green success from ODIN, then the phone turns off... permanently. I've tried pulling the battery and replacing, pulling batt. and plugging in, plugging in while holding "1". Note: each time I used a different computer, a different epic, and a different copy of the download. The only time I ever saw the first one turn back on into download mode was when I plugged it in to a USB port that was wired incorrectly... But at that point the charging module was fried anyways and was beyond repair. Talk about momentary excitement followed by total let down.

Whoa. I was just getting ready to convert to EXT4 using odin but after reading this, I'm not sure. Anyone? Is this just a rare fluke? If I follow through should I tick the re-partition or not. Could this have contributed?

Rick, I think this was an isolated situation. I personally have used this method and Odin in general probably a good 50 times or more by now, to Factory Restore or Flash a new OS and have had ZERO issues. 99.9% of the time any problems with Odin are user related because the instructions were not followed exactly or something was missed. Occasionally problems arise from Odin because of a bad USB cable or other unforeseen problem but those can normally be resolved.

Take your time, read threw the instructions and you should be fine. Charge that battery up to full also!

Are there any general guidelines when using Odin? For example when to tick re-partition or auto reboot or f reset time? Also, some examples use a pit file, and other examples leave it empty. Are there times it's needed and times it's not needed?

Rick, just follow the instructions for whatever method your attempting. Best advice.

I will say auto reboot is a given always unless noted. I never have ticked the f reset time.

I want to use a custom rom the midnight rom so is this a step towards that, after I do this with ext4 can I then flash the midnight rom?

I have root already but the ext4 conversion doesent work for me, I have tried it 3 times so far and each time i had to restore to before that and use samsung software to reset my phone (no nandroid)

Question: I have all of the Genocide, Black Theme and ACE 1.7 zips on the hard drive and have the EB13 Deodexed DUALFS (pre-rooted) zip already on my Epic with CWM 3.0.6. I want to now flash ACE 1.7 with Genocide to it but have a few questions:

Is this going to keep the bulk of my phone's data intact or am I going to have to restore from Titanium? Will my contacts, K9 email and all that jazz be "intact"?
I "backed up the current ROM" using ROM Manager. If I want/need to flash back to the way my phone is now, is that backup effective and functional?
I HATE having to go in and re-connect all of my apps after a backup and have [yet] to find a way to do it all at once. Will that be needed if I flash ACE?
I personally love the idea of flashing roms and this is the only one I've felt excited about doing. I just really don't like spending hours having to reset something so trying to get a little help on the front end before diving in. Not a noob to Android but I am to the whole 'flashing' thingy. Too nice of a day outside to be sitting here fixing a phone, if you know what I mean?!

Never mind the question, this method worked great when all the other restore/brick method failed...

And also as a side not i had all 3 of the "options" checked
"Re-part" "Auto Reboot" "F. Reset"

Another thing i did was switch usb cords and use a different port.

After using the Odin package with EXT4, you can flash midNIGHT.

Odin wipes everything off your phone.

Yes, nandroid backup includes everything on your phone.

thanks ragnarokx. I was having some update issues with wifi connectivity, battery drain and system lag. I did a format of the sd card and installed the ext 4 rooted image you posted and now the phone is working great.

Ok. I need help big time. I turned off the phone. Removed the SD card. Booted into Download mode. Opened Odin. Connected Phone to USB. (Odin showed 'added' and the yellow Com box). Un-checked "F reset time" (as on page 3 of this thread, it said only "Auto Reboot needs to be checked") Selected the EB13-Extended-3 file under PDA and made sure the PDA box was ticked. Clicked Start...THEN

Pretty much as soon as I tried to load the EB13-Extended-3 file, it failed.

I hit "Reset" in Odin and the Yellow light is still lit but the word "added" is gone. I hit start and now it just says "<OSM> All threads completed. (succeed 0 / failed 0)"


The phone is still plugged in to Odin and I am afraid to unplug it, although I'm sure it has been over 5 mins.

Somebody, please please advise.

Alright.. At this point you need to try the following.


- Turn off any and all virus scanners/spy ware detectors.

- Try removing your battery completely and plug your device into your computer with the cable. You may have to try different ports or cable.

- Next with the battery out and the device plugged into your computer try and boot into Download mode.

If you can get into Download mode then I would recommend at this point doing a factory restore to either Froyo EB13 or back to Eclair 2.1. This way your phone will be back to a functioning state again before reattempting the conversion to Froyo Prerooted/Deodexed with CWM.

You can download the files needed here and follow the steps.. Procedure #1 is for Froyo EB13, procedure #2 is for Eclair 2.1

Not sure if you followed the OP instructions, but the post I did on page #3 was referring to someone that was checking/ticking F Reset Time and other boxes.. I believe it says to have the Repartitioning checked for the CWM3/EXT4 version, but that shouldn't of affected things immediately when starting Odin like it did in your case.
