Frustrated with the Droid

I have the Motorola Droid after having the Bold. I switched because I was paying good money for using the internet, but barely using the internet because web browsing was so bad.

I enjoy the Droid but the contacts stink. I loose contacts all of the time, when I type in a contact name to text sometimes it comes up sometimes it does not. I am about to chuck my Droid and get a Storm 2.

Before I do that are there any good Contact Apps out there in Droid Marketplace that anyone can comment on?

i've never had a problem with my contacts. search these forums, i've seen other people have this problem, maybe someone posted a solution.

I switched from bb as well. I use fast call. I starred my favorites so as to use a speed dial list and it works well for me but I've gotten used to it now. There is another one. It may be Dialer one, but I'm good with what I have. The fast call with take you to first letter of name. If you hit the star, it will bring up the ones you listed as favorites.

Hope that helps.

EEEK! Leaving the Droid for the Storm 2 is a huge mistake.

When you open up the contacts, you can tell it what group to display.. Perhaps you are only showing Google contacts? or maybe FB contacts? You should be able to tell it to display ALL contacts.

I would suggest trying out the incredible instead and see if you like it. That is, if you don't mind waiting a few weeks. I hear its loads better than the storm 2. Sorry to hear you are having problems.

I would take the Motorola Backflip over a Storm 2.

I would take a T-Mobile G1 over a Storm 2.. I would take an Android 1.0 device over a Storm 2. Yes I would.

I have never lost contacts or SMS messages. What are these ridiculous claims that the Droid just looses info?!

Prior to 2.1, my SMS app would sometimes crash if I had too many texts, and when I'd open it, all my texts were gone!

hasnt happened since though.

I wish they were ridiculous claims, but they are not. I like the Mot Droid a lot, it offers a lot of things that a BB can't do.

The other day one of my contacts sent me a text and their phone number came up not the stored contact name. I went to the contacts and they were no longer in my contacts. This is not the first time this has happened.

This weekend I went on the stock text app and typed in the name of of contact and the contact did not come up like it would on a BB.

I like the Incredible but not for $529 and potentially having the same problems. The Storm 2 is nice, but it doesn't view the web like the Mot and I am not willing to give that up.

Never had this problem with my Droid, and had since launch day, I would go take to the store for service, and don't leave till they give you another one. There is never a good reason to go back to blackberry...ever! Trust me I played with Storm 1 long enough to know

I don't know why some people's contact are being lost, but with smartphones and all their settings I know it happens. Maybe I'm oversimplifying, but I just keep all of my contacts logged with my gmail account. It's a little work, but that way they are always on my phone.

I've seen people talk about contacts being combined for stupid things like names being very close. I would go through your contacts one by one and see if this is the case.

I've had it combine my son Danny Jones in with my Uncle Daniel Smith. (Last names changed for example)

If so, while you have the contact open press the menu button, and you should have a button to "separate". This should fix your problem.

Good Luck!!

Also, did you have the Verizon store transfer the contacts from the BB to the droid? They did for me and it was all formatted weird.

I factory reset my phone, entered all my contacts into the Google Contacts on the web, then synced my phone and they all came on formatted nicely again and i havent had a problem since.

I too have found it best to have my contacts on the web. I exported my contacts from outlook and uploaded them to my gmail account before I got the Droid and when I activated it everything synced to the phone perfectly. It has worked great for the 6 months I've had it.

I got the Droid from Best Buy and they did sync up the Bold to the Droid. Right now I am synced up to my gmail account, twitter, facebook and I am on auto sync. Some of the contacts I have lost are ones that I have added by hand. Uploading from the outlook to gmail should help with the emails, but I seem to be losing cell numbers and I have trouble typing in the name from the text app and having the number/contact showing up all of the time.

Man I hate this for you! I will NOT go back to BB for nothing. Did you try a factory reset on the phone? Did you try taking the phone to a Verizon Store? Make wonder if Best Buy screw something up in the sync process between the Tour and the Droid.

I never had a contact problem but I sure love the Droid and now I'm awaiting on the Incredible to arrive at the beginning of the month. Android really rocks!

The new BB 9800 slider with a touch screen looks promising if it really exits. I like the large screen real estate it has to offer and I do miss how well the email, contacts and texting worked. If I can get a half way decent internet and be able to view emails like I do with the Droid, I will probably switch back. I miss my hotmail not being pushed.

Storm sucks BTW. anyway i have never had this type of problem, just cruise the forums. someone will help you.
