Hey all im sure you are already aware of this, but with my tinkering I decided to turn off LTE to see if CDMA would hand off and how my signal would be. Since I have done so I have have full bars and coverage everywhere as well as doubled my battery life. This isn't for everyone, but for me, no longer dropping calls and being able to send and receive text all day is my priority and considering I have WiFi 90% of the day the data speed of LTE isn't necessary. For those of you who dont know how to switch to CDMA only you go:

Settings>More>Mobile Networks>Network Mode>Select CDMA

Anyways just thought I would share. Here are the screen shots of my results with LTE and then Without for signal.

Your area might just had bad 4g signal since the nexus shows true 4g bars and not 3g

Lol would love to know what facts this statement is based on.

Signal bars are always inaccurate, check your dbm.. Settings >about phone > status... Lower number is better.

And yes right now you will often see better 3g signal strength in a weakish 4g area. The 4g network is still growing while the 3g network infrastructure has been in place for years.

Im in Portland Oregon, where the rezound and droid razr maxx all get full 4G signal it is ONLY my Galaxy Nexus where I get one bar or around -114 dbm on LTE and about -87 dbm while on 3G. All the other devices are full LTE and fly.

I recall reading that the dBM readings are those of the CDMA network, so, once again it's not LTE.

Read the article just posted

So from that article, instead of reading accurately, they want it to read in line with other VZW phones that don't read it as accurately?

WTF?

I get better service with 4g enabled which is still crap....
lower dbm with 4g turned off, but still connectivity is still an issue.

Yeah with me 4G enabled I cant even talk on the phone send or receive text it pisses me off. With 3G only, Everything is fine. Really annoying that my buddies rezound and razr all have full bars with 4G and dont have a single connection issue.

2 bars of 4G still kills full bars of 3G in Seattle. For me I only switch to 3G when I'm not surfing the web or downloading and app. If I'm doing some heavy stuff I'm going 1 to 2 bars of 4G all the way.

I don't have a bars or signal strength issue - my issue with the VGNex I've had for almost 2 weeks is that it keeps disconnecting, whether it be 4G or 3G. I've been using it in the same areas that I used my FASN8 - home, work and in-between - and I didn't have connection problems before like I do now.

The VZW rep at the local brick & mortar store looked it up and there is an update in the works (but it doesn't say when) that is supposed to address dropped calls, signal/connection problems, etc. If there wasn't an update coming soon I would demand a different phone because it's practically unusable for data & phone services, and it certainly isn't worth an extra $10/month for the virtually non-existent 4G.

Definitely a very, very poor launch, and shame on me for buying it but there was no way I was going to go backwards after having ICS on the FASN8. The update better fix these problems or I will be :mad::mad:

P.S. I flashed the sheeeeeet outta my FASN8 but I really like this phone as is and with the update coming ... soon? .... I want to see if it will resolve these problems. If it doesn't, I will flash this beotch in a heart beat.
