Make sure you download home catcher and home switcher so you can set your n button to your alternate launcher and then go back and forth between the nook and your alternate launcher.

I recently rooted my Nook Tablet in a similar manner and am using Go Launcher for my android access. I have found "button savior" to be a good way of navigating the new launcher. It is free on the play market, is easy to customize, and adds a nice feel to your new "dual tablet" without having to use the "n" button at all.
