Fully accessing your phone while plugged into AA?

I thought I read that even though AA takes over our screen when we're plugged in, we can still access our full phone by doing ________ or _______.

I can't find that post/article now :(

I think it had something to do with pressing the Recent Apps button, and then pressing Home. Does this sound right? Will the phone then be fully operational (minus any audio apps/phone calls/etc)?

I suppose I'm still concerned about AA's limitations & what it wont let you do. I'd still like to be notified if an important email came in, for instance. I dont need to read it right away, but it's good to know I got it instead of having to wait until I'm parked and unplugged.

I'm not convinced that having our phones mounted closeby on our dash with OK Google setup & audio synced via BT isn't better....but that's just me right now ;)

AA is still a work in progress. (There's a device in the works [it's been in the works for about a year] that will BT-connect to the phone and do everything - audio, video, and let you access the phone. Will it ever see the market? I want one, but I don't think I'll see it.

Once connected to Android auto, if you need to access other phone functions you can bypass it's "lock" on your phone by unlocking your device and hitting the multitasking button. Go to app of choice (say web browser) and use it as normal. Just know that if you hit the home button it'll go back to Android autos "locked" screen. And you'll have to hit the multitasking button again. I use this procedure on my V10, and it worked for my Note 4 as well.

While doing this, Android auto will continue to function normally.

Cool thanks!

So it kinda sounds like we should maybe even "pre-load" the apps we wanna use before we plug into AA, since we can't launch any new apps without going to the HOME screen, right? Just keep our commonly used apps open in the multitasking window before driving....

I keep going back n forth between the Pioneer 4100NEX & 5800BHS...one has AA while the other has a bit more audiophile capability and is $150 less.

TKS AGAIN
