Future Verizon OTA updates

I do not think we will ever get another OS update or maintenance update. I was surprised we even got the GB update.

Whereas I doubt we'll ever see ICS (and that's fine by me) I would not discount any patches. Heck... Just today they came out with Froyo (yes I Froyo) for the Continuum (which is the Fascinate with a smaller screen and a ticker at the bottom).

I had the Continuum for about a month, took it back and got my Fascinate. Although one would think it is just like the Fascinate, from my experience it was an awful device, with lots of flaws and faulty design throughout (the ticker never works as it should). The fact that that device is only now getting Froyo is very telling as far as what Samsung and Verizon think of that phone.

And I would LOVE to see an official ICS update for the Fascinate, but it will never happen. I've used the ICS ROMS for a few weeks, and the Fascinate is an awesome device on ICS. I was not blown away by ICS when playing around with it on the Nexus in the store, but once it became my daily driver on my fascinate for a couple weeks, it was pretty slick.

I tried out the ICS builds about a month ago and I am sure they are drastically different now compared to then. The thing I did not like about ICS was the interface. For some reason the color scheme and the layout really did not sit well with me.

I'll probably be one of the only people that would not put ICS onto my phone if it ever came out. I happen to like they way my phone works on (stock but rooted) GB and I am not sure what improvements ICS would bring.

I thought the same thing, but the more I used ICS, the more I liked it. Everything was smoother and a tad bit snappier. And I actually like the "Recent Apps" feature, where you long press the home button, and all the recent apps show up in a column on the screen, and you can press one to open it, or flick them away to close them, sorta like a task manager. If you tried the latest versions, you may be surprised at how much better they are. I'll most likely flash back to one of them any day now.

If all of this is true i am seriously done with this phone. No new updates means a worthless phone to me! Never really liked this phone since I've had it because of all the issues.

You are certainly entitled to your opinion but please do not rag on this phone.
I have been using it for the pat 14 months (and one day) and I think the phone is still a strong performer.
Granted it is not dual core or 4G but I don't have 4G in my area and the extra processing speed is not enough to make me want to switch.

This phone makes calls, does Facebook, surfs the web, has a very nice camera, etc. I have been using smartphones since my fist Samsung i300 palm phone circa 1999. This is the first time since I have had one that I am not anxious for my "new every two". IMO, there have been no major improvements to the hardware that is compelling enough to make me switch. And as far as ICS goes, I have tried it on my phone and I am not in love with the interface and I am actually running the stock GB straight from the VZW OTA update.

Again, I respect your opinion and these are just mine.

I'm happy to be getting a new phone, but to be quite honest I liked the Fascinate. I went through 6 or 7 of the due to various issues. Despite this I still very much liked the phone. I think it is the perfect size and mostly performs as I need it too. The only thing that really annoyed me regularly with most of the phones I owned were "possesed soft keys". I would push the button to turn of the screen and it would take a screen shot... Lately it has been freezing up and requiring a battery pull. The phone had a ton of potential. I hope that I like my Droid RAZR MAXX as much as I did my fascinate (It comes FEDEX tomorrow...)

My Fassy has been acting up alot too..many freezes and battery pulls..will just be sitting there and then the reboot tones start playing and it locks up..cant figure that one out. Its not rooted. Been looking at the Razr Max. Let me know how you like yours.

My wife and I have had lots of problems, including random freezing, random rebooting and general sluggishness. Over the weekend I did a factory reset on my phone. It took a couple of hours to get everything back the way it was. The ringtones and other sounds changed, however. I assume this is because the phone originally had Froyo, and the GB upgrade didn't change them. After the reset, it appears that all my sounds are now GB standard instead of Froyo. The reset didn't put me back to Froyo.

Since then I have not had any freezes or reboots. The battery even seems to lasting longer.

It may be worth a try. Good luck!
