FYI: Transfer contacts from Pre to EVO 3D

HTC EVO 3D has a Transfer app preinstalled. It uses Bluetooth.

1. I set my Pre beside my EVO 3D
2. Turned on Bluetooth on the EVO and Pre
3. on Pre -> select Bluetooth preferences, +Add Device, pre starts non-stop searching for device
4. on EVO -> started Transfer app, followed instructions in app, (selected "other" device in device list), needed to turn/set the Discoverable option to "On" in Wireless->Bluetooth settings
5. Pre wanted permissions to transfer contacts, I selected yes.

all the contacts transfered over - no problem...

I suffered much with Pre contacts transfer. Turns out, when you use the Palm profile for all your contact storage, your stuck, nothing will let you transfer. Until I found this "transfer" utility on the EVO 3D.. Luckily the Pre supports this bluetooth function.

unless you are in or near a Sprint store, a cellebrite machine will transfer off of a Pre/Pixi just fine. The transfer app is useful if you got the phone from the internet, or just dont feel like going to a sprint store.

All of my contacts juts come from my gmail account. I think its just better that way, Incase you feel the need to change platforms and all you need is, is a simple log in.

Best Buy had some kind of device (have no clue what it was) that they used, but it failed.

I had also tried the Mark/Space Missing Sync, but the contacts had to be part of the the profile created by Mark/Space (and all my contacts preexisted in the Palm profile). When I searched the Palm (HP) FAQ's and forms, they said you cant transfer your contacts from the Palm profile to another profile.

On the Sprint forms - folks had the same issue, including people saying the Sprint store folks could not transfer contacts. With this feedback comming from the Sprint Forms, I didnt bother driving to the Sprint store.

When I discovered this Bluetooth transfer app on the EVO 3D, and it worked, I posted the solution so the ramaining 10 or 12 pre owners - have a slution that I happen to trip over. (for the EVO 3D anyway)

Yep, had I thought ahead and used that google profile on the Pre....
