G-Nex Compatible with Car Audio Systems? USB audio out?

However, I don't understand why people use the cell for music. I tried that at the gym but my phone battery would drain the phone significantly making its useless for calls unless I recharged it.
People use their smartphones as music sources because plugging it into stereos charges them AND mutes the music automatically when other features are used - like phone calls, GPS, and texts. It's great!

Too bad I can't even do bluetooth audio streaming with my subaru. Car has an aux jack though right next to the usb plug. My plug does charge the phone, though not enough juice to power the navigation at the same time. It trickles down about 10% per hour or so.

I'll give Dock Sound Re-director a try.

one would think you could, as i can hear all audio through my bluetooth stereo headset.

I agree. Why do people do that? Don't they have computers anymore? I prefer to carry my laptop, GPS navigation unit, iPod, camera, and video recorder. My phone just stays ready for calls...

Lol, I bought the most advanced smartphone in world so that I limit it just to making phone calls.

That is how I feel about suggestions for switching off it seems like everything to conserve battery.

What should be happening is phone manufacturers should be looking for the next generation of battery technology, or they should be developing it themselves.

I'm going to start the Google Music upload process today. Oi.

And that's good, I need to find a new charger. Any example of a decent one? I presume it's one where you use the stock USB cable (or other like cable with the mini end).

I'm coming from a BlackBerry to the Nexus. I've been streaming Pandora (via bluetooth) and using Navigation and the battery stays at 100%.

I'm using my old car charger from my BB currently... that's the link.

Thanks guys. This is my first venture into android so wasn't sure about this. Sounds like it's not really my car's issue, but the Nexus's MTP mode not being compatible. This worked great for me. My car (Chevy Cruze) supports bluetooth, but not the A2DP required for streaming music.

I purchased this:

Amazon.com: Miccus BluBridge Mini-Jack RX: Bluetooth Music Receiver use with Bluetooth-Enabled Mobile Phones, Tablets, PCs and Apple (BBMR-02): MP3 Players & Accessories

You plug this into your AUX input, and if you have a USB port nearby you can plug that into the receiver to keep it powered.

The Nexus will bluetooth stream (A2DP) to this box, and the box plays it through the AUX input and out your stereo speakers.

Pandora, GMusic, Notifications, Navigation, everything comes across my car's speakers now. When I get a call, the music pauses, I take the call, when I hang up everything resumes.

Great device for cars that don't have A2DP streaming ability, and for the MTP situation we have. I couldn't control my phone via USB either, but I can my iPod. I'd rather use the Nexus, and this makes it all work.

Hope that helps.

Interesting, I think I'll give this a shot.

Just curious, is if you guys have AUX inputs, why do you just use that from the headphone jack? Why use bluetooth?

Does the Blue Ridge device automatically connect to the phone when you start the car and apply power to it, or do you have to press the button on it to get it to connect each time?

I use nothing *BUT* bluetooth. It's wireless and doesn't really draw that much power (especially compared to 4G/3G data for streaming Pandora or something).

One less thing to hook up. Plus in my car mount the headphone jack is a bit awkward to use and impossible with some of my charge cables (which have both a mini and a micro USB). As an added bonus, I can use it from the back seat with my daughter or hand it to my wife in the back and not interrupt the sound.

Hey triton - I have a 2011 WRX and I was able to pair my GN with my stock head unit for calls and audio streaming. This is assuming we have the same type of crappy base-model head unit. It pairs with my iPhone and GN with no problems.

I have a kenwood dnx7140 headunit and cannot get my phonebook or texting to work! Is anyone else having this problem? My old photon would download my address book and send and receive texts through the headunit and i could use the steering wheel controls to play, fastfoward and rewind what ever song was playing.

Hi im new to this site. My name is Alex, and im looking foward to learning alot. I just got a galaxy nexus and i have work in the car audio industry for 17 years. I heard that pioneer is coming out with a new app radio that should work all androids. Cant wait for it.

A lot of talk of carrying multiple devices ... iPods, laptops etc. I use my phone for EVERYTHING simply because its perfectly capable(mostly) of satisfying my needs without the extra bulk. I can get on my home PC remotely IF I ever need anything of if it so laptop seems a mute point IMO. Well, and I always already have phone with me. Gnex battery life isn't THAT horrible with a good kernel/rom combination.

Just my .2 cents LOL :)

AUX jack are a great alternative, but the down side to the is once u receive a call the music stops. Plus u still have to take ur eyes off the road if u wanna skip songs and analog hook ups never sound as good as a digital connection.
