G1 and Wireless Internet

I have read that the G1 is able to work with wifi. Does that mean if I purchase the phone but not a service plan, I could use it with my home wireless internet?

Obviously I wouldn't be able to make calls, but things like the browser, email and chat would work?

I don't think that T-Mobile is selling them unlocked and without a service plan.

And even if you did get your hands on an unlocked phone, activating it requires that it can connect to the internet via the cell network to enter your google account (without activating it you couldn't select a Wifi network to connect to).

I just moved to bogota, colombia and i unlocked my g1 phone but cant get on the internet nor can i sinc with my gmail account. does anyone know the remedy to this?

ya you need to make sure your wifi is turned on and enter any PSK

Can you write more details about your problem, what exactly not working?
