Don't know how long it will last, but the G2 is currently free on Tmobile website with 2 year contract. This is for a brand new G2 and not a refurbished model. I just placed an order and currently I am waiting on a tracking number.

I just did this myself. Not exactly free, at least for me there was an $18 "upgrade' fee and I paid for 3 day shipping so that was another $19.99, but the price was low enough to make me switch from my trusted blackberry.

o0o, I got one for my wife two days ago.... Time to call Loyalty dept....

I was 10 months short of my upgrade and when I saw the g2 was free today I thought it was a great time to switch from my BB(giving it up a little hesitantly but still excited about it) So They said I wasn't eligible for the upgrade yet and it would cost me $300 to upgrade.. I said no thanks and hung up. I thought about it for a while and I knew if I called and threatened to close my account they would be willing to do something for me

"I dont think it's fair that a new customer who is new to the company and hasnt really given any $ to the company yet gets the phone for free and me, who has been a loyal customer for over 5 years and have paid you thousands of dollars in service fees over the years gets charged $300 for the same phone.. It just seems like you take care of the new customers and the loyal ones like me get crapped on" he puts me on hold and comes back with "GREAT" news and says they will match it if I sign a new contract :) So it worked! I got the G2 for free and I still had 10 months before I was due for an upgrade! ALSO! I saw that TMO charges $30 for the unlimited 4G package, since I was on a grandfathered 19.99 BB unlimited plan I got unlimited 4G for my G2 for the same price! I can't wait to dive into Android! I got my daughter a 3g slide and it came today and I was playing with it for a bit and it seems cool.. I just hope I dont miss my blackberry too much.. I kind of already miss it and it's not even gone yet :( But rooting my G2 when it gets here will keep me busy!
Here is my plan of attack
1.get g2 delivered
2.root it (temp first then perm following one of the many methods I've read about)
3.install app to tether over bluetooth
4.look into SAFELY overclocking it
5. Look into maybe installing a custom rom like CM 6.1.1

It just seemed like there are many different ways to do all of these tasks and being a noob to Android I'm a little confused on which process is the best/easiest....

Same here - I am in no way eligible for an upgrade, but for some reason the website showed "free" so I upgraded and it processed. I am coming from a jailbroken Torch which I am using on TMobile and while I like it, the limitations that I am dealing with by using it jailbroken aren't worth it and Tmobile has absolutely no cool Blackberries. So, off to Android I go. Anyone know when the G2 is going to show up? My email confirmation shows Friday but the website shows next week. Still no tracking number.

What's funny is TMO's reps told my I was not eligible for an upgrade. I told them I was looking at the website and it said I could get the phone for free. They told me it was wrong. I placed the order and it's being shipped :)

Yeah, that's what the store told me too, they didn't believe me so I asked if i could show them the website. The rep had no idea about the deal, seriously, I could work at the store and do a better job than some of those employees.

well guys i also just called t-mobile on Wednesday and places my order and got my 2 G2 on Friday i have to say i am a iphone guy and never really gave Android a chance but now i deiced to give the G2 the chance and i have to say i really like this phone it has move to offer me as of right now then the iphone like it has already hotspot witch is a plus for my kids and now i can use my laptop at the park while the kids play (lol) over all i am sofar very happy with it and i have a lot to learn with android..

We joined TMobile last summer/fall and purchased the MyTouch 3G Slide. Lately, we've had a lot of failures sending text messages. My kids, who are on dumb phones, haven't suffered from it. I called TMobile yesterday and explained the issue. I asked if it was phone related or network related, and if phone related, would I be eligible for any kind of upgrade. The rep offered me two G2's for $129 total ($79 for first, $50 for second), with free overnight shipping.

Considering we haven't even been with TMobile for a year, I was impressed with the customer service and the fairly darn good price.

I accepted the offer and the phones will be here Tuesday!
