G3 signal strength

just checked along side with a friends htc m8, he's getting about -6-10 db better then my g3. Disappointed really, I love the g3 I might be able to live with the slightly better signal because I can always use the wifi calling service were the m8 doesnt have it still and who knows when they will. I would get a better 3g signal though. Might try to exchange i my g3 see if its just a bad antenna

Are you on Sprint? I thought I read they have wifi calling with the M8 now.

So I exchanged the g3, man Best buys policies have change they do anything and everything to discredit your exchange now.. Anyways I got a new g3 and took advantage of sprints 30day money back guarantee and got a ONe m8 hk, so I traveled 60 miles and there were neck and neck on signal seems like the g3 would switch over to LTE before the M8 would but would also lose it a few seconds before the m8. G3 would hang on sprints 3g network were the m8 would have to roam. My new g3 is doing remarkable better then my previous one sitting at my desk. right now -97 dBm g3 and -104 dBm on the M8. So they're very comparable now. (did these test with latest updates available *yes m8 has the wifi calling update)

Hello fellow G3 owners! I would like to add some things I've noticed on the G3 as well.

First, I noticed while my mobile reception signal strength bar in my home/work seems to be 1-2 bars showing. I make a call, I see the reception bar shoot right up while 3g/4g antennas are deactivated. When phone call is completed, data antennas are on... the mobile reception seems to weaken. Doesn't bug me, but it seems to switch back and forth (I don't know if this is actually true, but that's what it looks like to me)

Second, I was used to doing this with my previous phone Galaxy S3. During phone calls, I would be able to use data at the same time. I know the S3 is a single band LTE while G3 has triband LTE, CDMA and GSM (I'm not very phone techy to understand the GSM portion). Unfortunately, the beloved G3 cannot do that on either 3g/4g. Only WiFi enabled would you be able to use data and call simultaneously.

Neither of these are complaints, but just observation. Either way, I'm very much pleased with the G3.

P.S. - Anyone here able to explain the GSM portion? I'm on the Sprint network. Does that mean we're able to jump different networks if we choose to leave Sprint using a new SIM card?

There is a 1080p G3...the G2.
But when you and HolyBuckeye say you worry about signal strength, what happens? Do you lose connection, does it make things slower, etc? I'm lucky in having good signal...tho' not 4G yet.

Stumbled across this thread as I was Googleing poor signal strength on an LG G3 which I picked up today.

I am seeing EXACTLY the same as the OP with my LG G3, I'm even coming from a Nexus 5. It's unbelievable the difference in speed over data. My signal went from full bars to switching between 1 and 2.

Speedtest won't even run.

I will be taking mine back tomorrow, either to swap the SIM or swap the phone but after reading this thread I'm not confident a new one will fix it.

I'm in a 'purple' area on 3's coverage checker so I should have HSPA inside and out. I haven't on the G3 but do on the Nexus 5.

Bit gutted to be honest. I will let everyone know how I get on.

Just to look at this properly,look under network settings and compare using dbm,looking at bars doesn't really do it justice. Do this with both the g3 and n5. The lower,the better.

Be interested to hear how you get on. As you've seen from the thread my replacement made no difference. I'm intrigued to know if it is a problem with all G3 on three or whether there was a bad batch. I was disappointed to have to give up on the G3 but have to admit I'm really chuffed with the one m8 I got instead

I'm coming from a droid Maxx (maybe the gold standard for reception) I've had no issues with phone maybe a tad slower with data but nothing to complain about

I'm also experiencing a weaker signal with my new G3 than I had with my old Razr Maxx. I used to be able to sit downstairs in the middle of my house and answer calls without much trouble but now, assuming the phone rings, I have people telling me to repeat myself over and over again until I make my way to the doorway. I'm not sure what to do about it. I had switched from T-Mobile to Verizon a couple years ago because of this problem as Verizon had the better signal in my area... but here I am again.

Mind you, my ONLY complaint is the signal quality, as the phone is superior in every other way, BUT... it IS a BIG issue.

Settings will let me change which networks to use. I haven't played with that. No idea if that would help.

On my G3, I have 5 bars almost always. Sometimes 4. That's in Sequim, WA.

Okay, but what did the phone before that give you?

Right now, I'm on the top floor of a 10 story building in Norfolk, VA with a Verizon antenna on the roof and I'm getting 2-3 bars. The old Motorola Razr Maxx used to get 5. I could be on the phone in the elevators. Can't do that with the G3.

Anyone with the G3 how's the signal strength? I'm finding mine worse than the nexus 5 was by up to 10dBm which is really disappointing. Spoke to the shop and he would swap it for me but are they all the same? I'm surprised it's not equal or better than the nexus 5

I found that turning off location/GPS helps a little

I'm thinking maybe a radio update may fix things. Give it time. My signal has been wacky also. But then again at&t said a tower is severely degraded in my town so.. I'm just gonna wait. I always have full bars or 4. Last two days it's been hovering around 1-3.

Just for the record we European owners are having exactly the same issue!

It looks like it's hardware related because of the low SAR value of the G3 so I don't think we will ever see a fix but a new model...

LG made a BIG mistake this time!

Getting rid of my g3 unfortunately due to signal issues.. Really wanted to like this phone. But missed 3 calls from the family because of crappy signal issues.. Told AT&T what if it was an emergency.. Getting a new phone out of it after 30 days..

No because it doesn't happen just in my home. I could be out in town and lose signal completely. While wife and daughter have lte.. AT&T got back to me and said it was a network issue and it's fixed.. If it was, then why this morning while dropping kids off at school I had 1 bar and no lte and my kids had 3 bars and lte.. Not fixed.. But it's OK. I'm switching back to Samsung guys.. I'm sorry.. But it's the only other choice. That or Windows and I can't stand it..

I just received mt G3 yesterday afternoon so my signal strength experience is not a lot but in my office I normally get 1 bar on my Lumia 1520. On my G3 I go between 2 and 3 bars. I know this isn't a technical review but so far my signal strength, according to the bars on the phone, seem higher or on par with my 1520. (AT&T, 32/3 Variant, SC)

You can't go by the bars. You can go by speedtest.net app or better yet SpeedOf.Me, HTML5 Speed Test | Non Flash/Java Broadband Speed Test (html 5) - tested with wi-fi on and wi-fi off. The speed doesn't lie. Your subjective experience also matters but difficult at times to measure. I place my phone right next to another phone and test the speeds using SpeedOf.Me, HTML5 Speed Test | Non Flash/Java Broadband Speed Test. My T-Mobile G3 is much better than my old S3. No dropped calls and I can use it in areas where the S3 failed me. This is subjective, but I think true. Overall my G3 has very good signal. Both wi-fi and data - 4g/3g/LTE.
