G3 with microSD card

I recently got a new G3; it is working fine so far.

I read the section in the manual regarding installation of a microSD card, but it did not cover how data gets written to the card rather than to the memory of the phone. Does a downloaded app determine where it goes if a card is mounted, or do I select the destination?

It is usually under setting of each individual app. Default is usually internal memory unless you change it.
