I uninstalled Google photos app since that was the most recent. Rebooted and now I have no editing tools at all. I admit to being inept in regards to this stuff. Any ideas?

Gallery is the built-in LG gallery app, and when some editors start up they get "titled" (in the recent apps) as being part of the gallery. I don't believe Gallery is your editor. I'd say that you were using Google photos as your editor, but it was last updated at the end of July so if there were any changes to it you would have noticed 2 weeks ago. I believe that for many carriers, Google photos is the built in editor.
First thing I'd do is re-install Google photos (
https://forums.androidcentral.com/e...ogle.android.apps.photos&hl=en&token=amtm06VI ) ... if you like the app. Personally, I don't like it and it has the nasty issue of not being able to save changes to your SD card. But if you've been using it as an editor, and you're used to it, then go for it!
I much prefer QuickPic (
https://forums.androidcentral.com/e...?id=com.alensw.PicFolder&hl=en&token=vdkG4ocK ) not only for it's gallery features but for it's editor as well for doing things like cropping and rotation. (Read through
http://forums.androidcentral.com/lg-g4/538933-g4-pictures-rotating-after-sharing-sending-them.html to see how to get QuickPic to write changes to the SD card, something Google Photos can't do.)
For more advanced editing, I use Google Snapseed (
https://forums.androidcentral.com/e...com.niksoftware.snapseed&hl=en&token=0PsBX1mI ) ... once you realize that you have to use up/down/left/right gestures to run through the options, it's a very easy tool to use and the results are amazing.
I actually have 3 editors installed (QuickPic, Snapseed, and Paper Artist) and when I edit a photo, I decide which of the 3 tools I'm going to use.
