G4 - Questions / Issues

Re: Anyone else notice the plastic back is kinda creaky?

Consider maybe taking it to a store and showing them, if they'll let you try a back from another phone on it and see if it does the same thing, if not and they are cool dudes maybe they will let you do a swap. Who knows worth a shot.

Eh, last time they said it's the last swap. That I've done it too many times

So I went to a att device support center. They said it's a issue with the removable back. So I need to either:

A. Find a place where they sell the g4 backs.

B. Send the back to LG so they can send me a new one.

C. put a case on and ignore it and hope nothing happens.

I'm kinda not sure what to do. I don't know how sealed the back of the phone is under the removable back So I don't know if dirt can even get I to the phone and damage it. And I don't even know where to find replacement backs to buy that aren't the leather ones. I do know I'm tired of worrying and stressing about this phone.

Honestly if you're going to get it in dirt I'd get a case. If you're worried from general use I wouldn't stress so much. Just use the phone and enjoy. You can take it off and clean the back if anything gets around the edges.

I seem to worry about lots of things on my phones :) But dust getting under the rear cover wouldn't be a concern of mine.

The gap around my rear cover is uniform. Do you have a picture? There is a spot for getting your fingernail in, to remove the back. In the lower-right corner, if you were looking at the phone's screen. That's obviously not what you're referring to with the gap, right?

Is it recommended to take off the back cover and wipe down the phones internal back though if there's dirt? Could that damage components or something? And under the removable back is the phone pretty sealed? I just don't know if dirts getting in there because of a loose backplate or if that just normal?

No. I don't see a gap anymore with the exchanged phone. But if I press on the back, towards the edge of the phone, there a bit of a click in a certain spot. Meaning the backing maybe isn't clicked in all the way and sealed up.

If you're getting that much dirt in the phone you need to get a case. I get slight dirt on occasion and take the back off / wipe it off.. Wait for it to try then put it back but that's it.

Ita not a massive amount of dirt, just some.
I just figured the back should be sealed so no dirt should get in anyway. But guess not.

So wiping it off shouldn't do any harm?

It shouldn't. I have to ask though -- You get a phone with a sealed in battery and become worried about battery life, how long the battery will last, etc. but once you get a phone that has a removable you become worried about minor things like some dust / dirt. I get you want the best of both worlds but you simply cannot have it all and have to chose one. I wouldn't worry so much on the very minor things. A little dust or dirt will not hurt the phone. Now if you go mudding every weekend that is another story but simply cleaning the back and letting it dry / putting it back on won't hurt.

I am not sure what your needs are. You have been around for awhile and don't keep phones long (2+ years) so I am just curious as to your wants / needs. You can't have one thing from one from and then another thing from another since .. sadly .. they don't make it (I believe on purpose) so we buy various phones. So choose what is best and enjoy the phone. Nit-picking every little tiny thing will do nothing but cause stress / worry when it isn't needed and then you forget to enjoy the phone :).

Well, I have OCD pretty bad. So I'm constantly worrying about this stuff. If that makes sense. I just want my things to act as they should. And I'm not sure if its even worth having LG send me another back. I'm going to get a spigen slim armor case though. That way I can't even feel that give in the back plate. And I think it's a tighter fitting case. So dirt won't really get in

I can relate. I have OCD to the point of washing hands a LOT per day. Pretty much any time I feel any oil / grease on my hands. Things like this though you have to force yourself to let go -- I used to be the same about phones and computer parts. It just really isn't worth it. Very minor things like that are just going to happen since we use them almost as much as we use our clothes :).

Well, I called LG again and they said they really can't send a replacement back without first me sending the defective one in. Problem is for work reasons I can't be without a phone. So I may jump on that promotion they're doing giving away a free leather back and battery.

Edit: eh, never mind. Looks like it only works if I bought it on Sprint.

So I found a replacement back on amazon but it says "band LTE" on the back. Is that legit?

But Raven, if there is an irregularity causing slightly bad fit in one area, how do you know it's in the back rather than the body?

Well if anything I'll return the back and go into att and say it's a problem with the body.

Is there any tips to know I'm not getting counterfeit stuff? If it's from amazon sellers is it legit?
