First let me say I'm a LG fan. I've had the G2 G3 and currently have the G4 (briefly had the Sony Z3v). I went to Verizon today to check out the G5 and was already figuring out how I was going to justify an early upgrade.
But after seeing the G5 I have to say I was disappointed with the display. Sure it's sharp but it's just not bright. Side by side with my G4 the display had a grey hue to it. It was like there was a shadow over it.
I use my phone all day in my business and the display is very important. That and the swap able battery (I never make it through the day without swapping) It seems the G5 went to a lower brightness which is what made me leave my G3 for the Sony.
I really wanted to like the G5. The form is beautiful but the display just didn't cut it.

Are you sure the display model had the auto-dim feature turned off? Technically, the G5 is about 900nits brighter than the G4, and that should be enough to notice on the screen, & not to mention the added clarity added by the higher pixel density.

I don't see how that's possible because I have my brightness turned down and set to auto adjust. I could not use it at full brightness

The G5 has a brighter screen than the G4, that's just a fact. Likely the unit your were looking at was set at a lower brightness or defective somehow.

+1 on that my G5 gets supper bright in direct sunlight most LCD screens do
