G5+ WiFi "saved" but won't connect?

Lately my G5 Plus Wi-Fi goes through the authenticating process and says saved, but doesn't say connect anymore. When I tap on the saved area it says authenticating again and after I do that two or three times it says authentication problem. My Wi-Fi works fine on my tablets so what is the problem with my phone Wi-Fi connection? Please help. My G5 Plus is only 6 or 8 months old by the way. Is there some way to reset it on the phone? I rebooted the phone but that didn't help either.

Re: G5+ WiFi "saved" but won't connect?

Setting and search at top for network settings reset.... Or look in Backup & Reset menu

okay I found it under backup and reset menu and tapped on reset all settings Bluetooth Wi-Fi Etc but it still has the same problem. and always ends up stopping on Saved after authenticating words and when I tap on Saved and connect a couple more times, it always ends up saying authentication problem.😞

If you did a network settings reset and it still doesn't connect to only one network, it's not the phone.

Have you rebooted the router? What router is it? Is the firmware current?

yes earlier today I unplugged the router for about 20 seconds or so and then plugged it back in again which I guess is the same as rebooting it right? it's probably several years old now. It's a Cisco router. bought it at Best Buy probably 8 or 10 years ago maybe. how do I check if the firmware is current? I'm not very tech-savvy as you can see. All I know is that it has been working fine for years now until the last week or so when I intermittently get this saved thing instead of connected.

Honestly, it's probably using TKIP encryption which is insecure and no longer supported. If you can log into the router check your wireless encryption settings and verify it's WPA2 only and using AES encryption.

Any wireless router over about 3-5 years old should be replaced... Not only for this, but the general security and vulnerability changes that have occurred in that time. Seriously, having a router that old is like having your house keys under the door mat, your basically inviting everyone in. Having a wireless network today requires a little tech savvy, but it's not super complicated.

yes I do know that it is a WPA2 but have no idea about the aes part how do I check that? Or is wa WPA2 good enough, or current enough? The Curious Thing is that it works on my two tablets just fine.

Really, that's not that unusual... They are probably older and not as updated.

What is the exact model of router?

it's a Cisco Linksys e2000 my tablets are two to three years old at the most. Both are Galaxy Tab S2... 1 is the 8 in version and the other one is the 9.7 inch version. I just noticed that my router is PSK and also WPA2

Re: G5+ WiFi "saved" but won't connect?

Maybe I'm barking up the wrong tree... It uses TKIP and AES, but it is 8 years old, much older than any Soho router should be in service. I still think age and security changes could be a factor.

I guess your next step is log into the router and check the firmware version, then go to Cisco website and see if there is anything newer, and install it... The next step would be to factory default the router.

But if the phone connects to any WiFi network, it's likely not the problem.

My current firmware version is V.1.0.00 but after reading articles on the web about upgrading it, it sounds like I may be in over my head if I try all the steps they list 🤔
Thanks for your ideas though.

Hmm... It's really nothing more than get your hardware version from the bottom, go to Cisco's site and download the latest file, then web into router, navigate to upgrade page, browse for the file you downloaded and click apply and wait a few minutes.

If that's over your head, see if you can find a friend to help... You are on the original firmware for an 8 year old router, the vulnerability of that is scary.

Looks like you don't even need the hardware version, there was only one... Go to this page, click Hardware version 1.0 and click the Download link in the FIRMWARE and note where it is saved (most like in your Downloads folder) and the filename is FW_E2000_1.0.06.001_US_20140310_code.bin

Next, in your web browser go to your router's IP address... Most likely it is http://192.168.1.1, and unless you have changed it the username and password are both admin. Then navigate to Administration - Firwmware Upgrade, click Browse and select the firmware file you downloaded above, then click Start Upgrade button, and wait for the process to complete. The entire process is detailed here.

That's all there is too it... BTW, the newest file for that router is still 2014. Honestly, if it was me I would replace it anyway.

Release notes for firmware versions are below, there is really only one thing noted that may apply here and I highlighted it for you. The reality here is if the phone works on every other WiFi network except this one, it is an issue with this router.

Thanks ace. I followed your instructions as well as the links you provided. Spent over 1 1/2 hrs. working on it - trial and error - but it still doesn't work. I did get the firmware download ok but the rest didn't work. I went ahead and ordered a new dual band router from Amazon so should get that Tues.. Now I'm praying that I'll be able to set that up properly. :) Thanks again.

I have had a similar problem with an old router, replaced the router, problem solved.😊. I hope you have similar success.
