Galaxy A16 5G performance and memory

I just got an Android 16 5G. Everything is good except one minor problem. I use two web browsers including the very light weight Via, and 2 or 3 social network apps regularly. They almost always refresh if I jump to some other app and come back. This means the phone is too low in memory. I've cut down on lots of things making sure the browsers only open a few static webpages (no animation or videos) etc., to no avail. I still have my old A13 5G phone, which has the same amount of memory, 4 GB. It rarely has this problem, but it runs an older OS. The only explanation I can think of is that the new OS on my new phone uses more memory. Any comment or suggestion is appreciated!

Just to be clear, you're talking about a Samsung Galaxy A16 5G, right? Android 16 is still in the early beta phase. 😁
Yes. I got it "free" by switching my carrier to TMobile. The phone is Galaxy A16 5G, model SM-A166U. If future software updates will improve the performance, I'm willing to wait.

It's a low budget phone so don't expect performance to get better, now for your browsers have you tried locking them to recent apps so they don't get kicked out for other apps?

Also check in phone in settings>Device Care under Memory>Ram plus feature which can give you more Virtual Ram , not sure if they have it on budget phone.

Thank you! I already did it. Via browser has Advanced -> Go back without reloading enabled. RAM Plus has 2 options, 2G and 4G. It's set to 4G by default. I agree It's a cheap phone. I shouldn't expect much from it. I think I'm going to return it and buy one with more RAM. I got my cheap A13 3 years ago and I'm happy with it except it's getting old now.

Maybe I use my phone a little differently than most others. I don't store many pictures and rarely any videos, and I regularly delete stuff or move them to my laptop. But I do care about memory or RAM. I think I'll buy a phone with at least 8 GB. Thank you!

I edited your thread title to replace "Android 16" with "Galaxy A16 5G."

Certain manufacturers (including Samsung) tend to be aggressive in terms of task killing in the background as a way of improving battery life and trying to improve overall performance. This approach can have the side effect of causing the browser to constantly refresh if you switch away from it and then come back.

Try going to Settings>Device Care, tap Memory, then Excluded Apps. Add your browser there, and see if this improves for you.

Thanks, B Diddy! Most apps I regularly use are already in the list. I missed Via browser so I added it. Used the phone for a bit, like 20 minutes. The problem persists. I'll buy a better phone. Thank you for your suggestion.
