Android Central Question

hi everyone I'm looking into getting a new phone and I'm just narrowing down my choices.

I like that the A71 is newer, supports 5G and has 4 cameras. I had an S8 and the camera was great.

I'd like the phone to have a good camera and doesn't lag to much.

What do you think about the A71 vs S10+?

Thank you

Thank you for the reply. Yes, I'm in the US. How is the s10+ the better phone. i'm just curious.

Sorry. I thought i was logged in.

Its a midrange phone the a71, they didn't put best display that's only flagship , no wireless charging,no ip water resistant, not the best chip like flagship.

The only thing going against the S10 (+, or otherwise), is support. The S10 series is a year older. It launched with Android 9, got 10 earlier this year, and should get 11 next year. Then, only one more year of monthly security updates after that before it goes quarterly.

The A71 just launched with Android 10, and should get 11 and 12... basically an extra year of support.

It all depends on how much that counts towards a decision.

I'd be surprised it gets 12

Pretty sure it will.

Maybe 6-8 months after the S20 line gets it...
If it does thats great , midrange Samsung usually forgets them after a year, but they changed strategy so I can't go completely against what your saying.

For some reason I just don't see any Samsung that isn't a Galaxy S or Note or Fold/Flip that will ever get more than 1 OS upgrade and 2 years of security updates.

I be shocked also , but Samsung has changed things , will it trickle down to midrange is to be seen.

Samsung updated most of the 2018 A line phones (A6, A7, some A8s and A9) to Android 10, and they all started out with Oreo.

Some of the A8s that launched with Nougat got Oreo, then Pie.

So it's not like Samsung hasnt been doing this with the mid-lines already

For me I'm all for it if they get same as their flagship gives a great opportunity for anyone doesn't want spend big bucks but have a pretty good phone with updates.

I'm actually considering one of the A models from AT&T myself. The A71 in fact. If the A51 5G makes it there, I'm in - as long as it gets the Qualcomm SOC instead of the regular A51's Exynos.

That would be one I would also choose , A71 and I agree with Qualcomm:)

I don't care about the OS myself, my old S6 is 5 years old and I was fine with it until it died. In a new phone, I want it to be fast with decent battery life and a great camera, with a screen that I can actually see in sunlight. The A71 has a 4500 mAh battery vs 3400 mAh for the S10, but the screen and processor are not as good, although I've heard the S10 can be laggy. From the specs it looks like the A71 has a better camera, 64MP vs 13MP, but I've read that the S10 camera is still better. So I am conflicted on which to get. A lot of people have told me just to go for a OnePlus 7T instead, but I find it too large and it has no headphone jack.

Just a quick update. AT&T just listed the A51 5G on their site today (Aug 21).

Unfortunately, it has the Exynos chip. What a disappointment. Apparently, only Verizon is getting the Snapdragon version in the U.S. Even T-Mobile's uses the Exynos.

Looks like the A71 is going to be it. Although, I don't plan to change phones for a few more months, so things can change.
