Galaxy Gear... draining Note 3 battery.

I've been testing this for 2 days... and I'm definitely getting a significant battery drain while using the Gear with the Note 3. Anyone else?

Did you expect anything else from an always-on Bluetooth Device? Especially if you get a lot of notifications during the day...

Actually... yes. My bluetooth headset (LG Tone), is always on and is in heavy use all day. But I can still go more than 8 hours with both the phone (the Note 2 at the time) as well as the headset itself. Saturday I got 8 hours total out of my Note 3 while the Gear was connected. Sunday I got 15 hours out of my Note 3, sans Galaxy Gear.

Now today...as of 5 PM, after taking my phone off the charger at 8:00 AM... my phone is at less than 5 % battery (critical).

I have been using my phone all day with galaxy gear with wifi on as well with heavy heavy use and now at 5 at 50 percent since 8 am this morning. That's pretty good to me

Something else must bedraining your battery?

I took my Galaxy Gear off the charger along with the phone at 6 am this morning. It's now 8:55 and my phone is at 49% and my Gear is at 60%.

I have been using both rather extensively all day. The brightness level is on outdoor mode on the Gear, and about 75% brightness on the phone.

I would suggest you check more thoroughly. I would bet the Gear is not the problem.

FYI your gear does not stay on outdoor mode at all time once activated. After so many minutes it returns back to normal brightness

Install a battery monitor (I like GSAM) and it will tell you what is draining your battery. I don't have the Galaxy Gear, but do have a Pebble, so I have a blue tooth device always on, and I am getting great battery life.

I understand what you're saying but that does change anything I wrote.

If anything it bolsters my point that your battery drain cannot possibly be the Gear since, as you rightly stated, the brightness level adjust downwards to conserve battery consumption.

This was the one concern I had. Agh, I'm so tempted to get the Gear. But I don't know if Google is announcing theirs at the end of this month.

I haven't noticed more battery drain on the Note 3 since I got the Gear. We haven't had these devices long enough to know for sure, but I get more than a day's worth of power on my Note 3 on one charge.

The whole point of BT4.0 LE was the Low Energy comsumption. It wouldn't make sense for it to drain the device its paired to. Try a resent and repair.

Hmm, I could live with the drain on the phone. I keep a portable charger on me for a reason. As long as the watch makes it through the day.

I am on the same path as you.. Getting ready to pick up both from Tmobile on Friday. On the battery drain, I am ordering one of the spare battery kits. They have clone note 3 batteries with charger going for under $20. My wife has used the clone batteries for her S4 and no problem. The point is, if you are running the note 3 and the gear, then it stands to reason to have a spare charged battery. Either an OEM or clone.

On the google bit, is Google coming out with a Gear? I am finding it hard to leave the Tmobile 30% discount for the Gear, bringing the price down to $209+taxes..

I'm at 1 day, 3 hours and 23 minutes since the last charge on the Note 3 with 71% battery remaining. The Gear has been connected the whole time except when I stepped too far out of range from the Note 3.

Have you already ordered the Gear? If not, the 30% off promotion has ended. Also, the Gear is online only from T-Mobile.

Dam! I have a order number for my Note 3, and was going to order the Gear tomorrow!! Will see if I can talk them into giving me and extension. Because if the 30% is off, that might be a deal breaker for me with the Gear. Really don't need it, but for $209, I was going.. Will see...

How can you compare a Bluetooth headset to the gear? The headset sat idle unless talking... The gear is talking with your phone for all your notifications and pictures (if you're taking then with it). So.. It's active more so more drain.

Folks, there is very little drain on the phones battery by the Gear. I am no scientist or engineer, by any stretch of the imagination, but I suspect that one factor for the reason the phone's battery is lasting so long is because of the Gear.

What I mean is this; with the Gear attached, and the ability to read emails, read and respond to text, take and receive phone calls, snap and capture quick pictures and video, then it means the phone's display is not lit up anywhere near as much as it normally would be to accomplish those same task. I keep my phone's display around 75% or more. Since I've had and use the Gear I know for sure that I don't reach for my phone anywhere near as often as I had prior.

In my opinion, the battery life for both devices is incredible, and it could be because they are sharing the load that one device had to perform on its own before being paired together?

I agree the battery life is incredible. My old iPhone 5 was having to charge multiple times a day to last all day.
All I can say is I am a heavy user!! Very heavy user. I leave my house at 730 am with around 97%. I use all day taking photos emails video and surfing. I also have galaxy gear with blue tooth on. At 8 pm still at 25-35 percent without ever putting on a charger. That's dam good for the amount of time used. In fact today left house at 730 am and at noon still at 85% and been using. My galaxy gear charged at 100 % this am and at noon 97%. Gear goes all day and only at 70% or so when getting home at night with making calls taking photos and playing around.

How could anyone complain with that!!
