Galaxy Nexus and Ford SYNC Phone Problems

Start with by clearing your Nexus from the SYNC system. Go to the Phone Menu (press the Phone icon on the steering wheel or dash), then use the tuning knob to select System Setting. Select BT Devices and push OK. Then select Delete Device, then find your Nexus and push OK, push OK again to confirm the delete.

Then go to your phone, to the Bluetooth settings and delete the Sync connection.

Now, go back to your vehicle to the phone menu. It should come back with the message "No Phone Paired" When it prompts, add BT Device, push OK. When it prompts "Push OK:" to begin pairing a device, then push OK, the screen will show a 6-digit PIN. Turn the tuning knob to "Special PIN" then push OK, it will show either a 0000 or a 1234, then start your phone searching for a New Device, when it "finds" Sync, select it and then enter the 4-digit PIN of your choice. It will Pair and then answer its questions (with an OK) when it asks to make it the Favorite Phone and Download Phonebook. Allow three to five minutes to download the phonebook.

The Droid-based phones will not reliably download the phonebook when you use the 6-digit PIN.

If the system does not automatically ask to download the phonebook, then do the following:

1. Press the PHONE button to enter the Phone Menu.
2. Scroll to PHONE SETTINGS and press OK.
3. Scroll to MODIFY PHONEBOOK and press OK.
4. Scroll to DOWNLOAD PHONEBOOK and press OK.

I'm checking in to see if anyone has been able to get their Text Messaging to work with their Ford Sync system. I have a 2011 Ford Fusion and have not been able to get my text messages read aloud to me via the Sync system. I would prefer that option but have found another that does work. My Droid X worked perfectly but not the Galaxy Nexus. Everything else about it has worked fine. (no phone book or streaming issues)

I've tried the suggestion here to reset the MAP on the system but it does not seem to work for me. I haven't been able to figure out why.

My work around has been to use the App Text by Voice which will do this. When I receive a text message it will interrupt the music over my radio and break directly in as if a call is being received. Everything is done by voice and I've been really surprised at how well it picks up what I am saying even when I don't pick my phone up.

Any suggestions on getting the Sync system to work though?

Dang. Just switched to the Galaxy Nexus. Though the Epic Touch (GS2) worked, the Galaxy Nexus shows "Unsupported" on the 2012 Mustang Ford Sync. Here's hoping the Jelly Bean update supports MAP.

Really, I rarely used the feature, though... wish I knew how to add to the canned messages that the Sync system lets you reply with. Not worth switching phones just to get the feature back for me.

Nice to know that a custom ROM has the feature working. Stock does not. Gives me hope that maybe the JB update will have it working.

2011 Ford Fusion and my sync works. It's been buggy. I once had to pull the fuse to reset sync.

My phone is stock. I haven't rooted it.

I have a 2010 Fusion w/o Nav and SYNC is up to date. Text messages worked with my stock Droid X, stopped working with my CM7 ROM. Just got the Samsung Galaxy S3 and text functionality is not available.

Talked to Ford last night who said that the MAP menu option is only available on cars with the nav screen. I cannot confirm this but can confirm that my non-nav device does not have a MAP option as indicated by the fixes above. He claims MAP is enabled by default on the system and there would be no way to turn it off.

I'm suspecting the phones (maybe the radio ROM/Bluetooth stack?) and not the car.

Going to try the app you mentioned as a temporary fix but will be returning the phone if I cannot get a solution within my 15-day trial period. Ohio is enacting a full ban on texting while driving and I drive too much to not at least be able to check the incoming SMS messages.
