Galaxy Nexus internals detailed

There never will be any games that require more if we don't get the hardware out there to push them.

I feel its more about software then hardware. PC's hardware far out match Xbox or PS3 but you can still play a lot of really fun and beautiful games on them.

Nothing about the battery? I know 1750 was heavily rumored in the latest hands-on stuff, but I'm curious if it's been officially confirmed.

Still not sure why everyone was whining about HDMI. It uses MHL which is far, far better.

The same reason everyone whines about everything.

In what way exactly is it "far far" better? My apologies as I am not familiar with MHL. Are there extra attachments needed? How does MHL work?

Kinda bummed by the GPU.

why? what games require anything more then that? My Nexus One (which had a crappy GPU when released) can still run anything I throw at it.

Not to mention that using this GPU (that's in 40 million iPhones, and 20 million Galaxy S phones) and overclocking it means that developers who write games won't have to write new specific versions for it.

I don't think we had many problems with hardware anyway. Software to better utilize the hardware is more of our bottleneck.

Wasn't the GPU over locked from previous uses of it?

And my concern with HDMI was the lack of HDMI out via an HDMI port. Not a deal breaker for me though.

Sounds like a great device overall, i'm just kind of bummed there are some compromises. I was hoping it would be so head and tails over the competition that the choice would be easy.

Here is a really good comment

Alright people.....seems like a crapload of people don't know what they are talking about.

First off.......GOOGLE HAS ALL POWER OVER THIS PHONE, try being samsung and going against Google on THEIR phone. Samsung is only lending parts and helping manufacturing it.

It's also all about software integration this time.....like WP7, running the OS better without the need of ridiculous specs.

Next, there are reasons why Google has gone with the TI OMAP vs Exynos. First, the OMAP 4460 has superior HD encoding skills for that beautiful 720p screen. Higher resolution = harder to run just like any PC game. The OMAP 4460 is also originally clocked at 1.5ghz so it's definitely going to get overclocked/undervolted after its release. The SGX 540 is also over clocked......yes it's sad that they didn't put a beefier GPU in there but the SGX 540 still holds its ground and its all about the software integration anyway. I highly doubt android games are being developed based solely off the SGX 540, if they were....you would get better looking games than the original Infinity Blade considering the iPhone 4 is using a slower GPU than the SGX 540, it uses the SGX 535 i believe to be exact.

They also went with OMAP because of the dual-channel memory which means better multitasking.

5MP camera may be less than 8MP but from early tests, the 5MP camera is holding its ground against the 8MP iPhone 4s, we won't know until more tests are done and they find out what sensor etc...but I'm sure Google put some thought into this and its not complete . IDK about you guys, but i barely takes legit photos with my phone....thats what a DSLR is for and point and shoots.

Either way, its all about ICS and integrating it with the hardware this time around as Google said numerous times during the release of the phone. So i expect it to be snappier than any other android phone until the next Nexus phone is released. Nexus S is still smoother than most phone and keeps up with the likes of the Galaxy S II.

Oh yea....for some benchmarks. There's early benchmarks showing the Sunspider and V8 tests. The Galaxy Nexus blows the iPhone 4s out of the water in both of them

I'm no specs expert, but it looks like the Broadcom chip they put in it gives it Bluetooth 4.0. Is that right?

MHL is a spec for running HD through the mini-USB.

Uses the same port without having to sacrifice space and add cost with a HDMI-out.

I'm no expert and I'm not trying to be confrontational but I find it hard to believe that you'll be able to use HDMI out via USB and charge at the same time correct? That kills it for me it might as well not have any sort of HDMI out. And while it may be able to charge in a dock and have HDMI outI don't plan on carrying a dock with me to friends houses or whatever to show them videos or to work for a mini tech course.

Like I said its not a deal breaker but I've gotten so used to a standard micro HDMI I'm going to find it annoying to carry a huge phone and a huge tablet.

from the wiki article:

The MHL standard features a single cable with a low pin-count interface able to support up to 1080p high-definition (HD) video and digital audio while simultaneously charging the connected device.

I'll take this one further. The Galaxy Nexus supposedly uses contact charging (the few dots you see on the side of the case) So no matter what's plugged into the micro-USB port you should still be able to charge the phone.

Amazing... Forgot about those... Definitely want a dock and anything else I can use those pins for
