Galaxy Nexus Pentile is Confirmed

It's still an upgrade from my evolution screen and if it looks near as good as the nexus s or the gs2 I am more than happy as I like both of those screens a lot

Has anyone considered that it may have been prohibitively expensive to produce an 720p Screen with a full RGB display?

Nah, it's just another way for the MAN to stick it to us. $299 for a PenTile screen. Most of the features on this phone is found in ICS, what features does the phone have by itself?

Don't buy it if you don't like it. I don't think Verizon or Samsung will make you buy it.

If I had the money, I would buy it though, but I do not have enough for full price and upgrade is not till late next year.

I think people complaining about this pintile stuff is just nit picking. If this screen is supposed to be the best picture next to ip4 who the heck cares how it was achieved on the back end? All of the super amoled displays I have seen so far have been awesome...weather it was plus, just regular or no doubt this HD one.

Having owned an Epic, iPhone 4 and HTC Thunderbolt recently, I'd say I liked the Epic screen the most. The iPhone 4, while it had the highest resolution, the screen was too small for me to type on and not as bright and vivid. The thunderbolt had the worst screen, but it isn't terrible. 4.3" was great for typing and great indoors... outdoors the Epic and iPhone 4 were much much better. I can't wait to have a phone again I can use outdoors.

It's too bad that the Bionic gave a lot of bad press to the pentile display. Anybody remember the AMOLED and Super AMOLED displays? Those were all the rave. They won many accolades and were considered among the best screens of their time. They were also pentile. As Colin explained, pentile displays do have their benefits as well.

My last 3 screens were ip3gs, a captive (gs) ,and the evo so I fully agree the with you cause my captive had that same great screen your epic had since they were both gs devices with the same super amoled display. When I went from at&t to sprint I would have picked the epic over the evo had it not been such a fat phone compared to the captivate and evo.

The new HTC Vigor next month has 720p.
The LG Optimus Eye has 720p (given that it's taken them 6 months to bring over the Optimus Black and 2x after announcement, I wouldn't hold my breath for this one :-)

Both are true RGB AFAIK.

But was anyone in this forum at the Galaxy Nexus event? They had phones you could play with. That's the best way to find out if you see the staircasing of pentile displays...

I'll take HD Super Amoled + pure ICS anyday over HD RGB non amoled and Gingerbread + skins/bloatware.

Super AMOLED screens PenTile screens are beautiful. I think people spend to much time with Motorola phones. Excluding the Razr of course. :)

The LG isn't...it is called AH-IPS

AFAIK, it's RGB IPS though, w/ their special Black technology which is close to the Galaxy phones.
BTW, the LG LTE (the 720p phone) has been named the LG Eye already...their take on retina displays I presume.

If no one on this thread went to the ICS event and saw one of the Samsung Nexus phones in person, I think we're all going to have to just agree it's a wait and see...

Omg people. There's no white subpixel - get over it. The screen will be beautiful. This is not a motopentile.

People who complain about a PenTile display won't be able to tell the difference unless it is side by side with another display that is standard RGB instead of RgBg (or however you want to note the "pixel sharing"). At 720p, the problems of a typical display will be minimal.

The main issue is likely sub-pixel density, which this phone has a very high one. The Super AMOLED+ HD that will likely be part of the Samsung Galaxy S3 will have an astronomically high sub-pixel density (though, it won't be pentile either)

Lol. There wasnt really a doubt about this. Its not the same pentile as the motorolas. I challenge the op to take a look at it in the store and tell me it isnt a beautiful display.

I have both the Atrix and I've preorderd the international version for ATT. I'll let you know how they compare. I have the SGS II also.
