Galaxy Nexus randomly turned off?

2x for me in the past week or so. Once when plugged in all night and another time just sitting there screen off. Both times had 4G off and wifi on only when plugged in.

Not sure, but it may not be the GNex. My Xoom running the official 4.0.3 OTA rebooted on me yesterday while listening to music with Power Amp. I wonder if there's something with the audio codecs that's causing this. Wireless states don't seem to matter. I've always been on 3G (with LTE disabled) when my Nexus rebooted, and my Xoom (WiFi only) had the WiFi radio turned off when it rebooted. Alywas been while listening to music of some kind...

Seems like a lot of people are having these reboots/shutdowns while listening to music (streaming or local). It also doesn't seem to matter what app you're using to listen to music. I really hope this can be fixed through a software update...

Same as above for me. Listening to Pandora last night and I had 2 reboots less then 15 mins apart. Definitely something going on with the phone while streaming. I believe that I was on 3G and no other app in use at the time.

Random reboot yesterday. Was into a phone call with vet about a a minute. Phone charged at like 94%. In the middle of a sentence and phone wemt dead then immediately rebooted on its own. Thought to myself, " Umm...is my phone updating finally or something???" Nope.

My g-nex reboots all of the time when I use the Siruis/XM radio app. My drive to work is forty five minutes one way and it will reboot at least once, but sometimes twice during the drive. It happens every day and it's usaully around twenty to thirty minutes into the drive. This is my second g-nex. I returned the first one because of the same problem so i attributed the problem as being caused by the app. It has never rebooted for any other reason. Now i'm not so sure, it seems alot of people are having the problem while streaming some type of media.

My Gnex rebooted 4 times within 1 hour this morning while at the gym. Streaming music. I called vzw to see if they had some fix in the works. Tech support said they have no knowledge of the problem. Meanwhile it is posted on their own forums on their website. Their common fix is to reset to factory defaults. Wish there was a fix. Love the phone other than this.

My has been rebooting 1-2 times a week since launch day. This morning around 6:30AM I picked up the phone and hit the recent apps button. "No recent Apps" That's odd know I had several apps in there when I went to bed last night. I checked the up time and it was at about 3:30. So apparently it rebooted around 3AM. I know I don't sleep walk so it wasn't me. I have no idea what background tasks could have been going on at that time to cause a reboot.

I would have to agree, it appears to be something to do with the audio side of ICS for the most of us. My GNex shuts down when running Pandora. This only started a week or two ago. No re-boot, just shuts down. Not only that but I have to long press the power button two or three times before it will boot back up.

Samsung/Google/Verizon are you listening, or do you just consder this to be a feature?

My new nexus was fine the first day, no problems no nothing. The second day the phone turned off when I took it out of my pocket. Thinking it was possibly my pocket I didn't think much of it. Then it happens again not even 20 minutes later. This has been the 3rd day and it CONSTANTLY reboots. Luckily this is not my primary but if it was it'd be annoying as hell! Hope there is a phone soon because the phone is very very slick and (dare I not say it) MAY replace my Blackberry.

I am curious. i have just started having this happen to me using any streaming app.
Google Listen, slacker.com but not on Google music yet.
I have had this Galaxy Nexus since 1 week before Christmas but the shutdowns have just started happening this last week. at first it was once per day but now it seems to be whenever I use the app for more than 10 min like it might be related to a memory leak. Would that cause a sudden shutdown?
Stock 4.0.2 Galaxy Nexus CDMA.
Does anyone else get a really loud noise through the speakers the instant before it happens?
I get a popping noise and my phone instantly shuts down. If I leave it alone it will turn itself back on in about 20 seconds.
I wonder if this is a hardware issue or app?
The solution I see online is to do a total reset and lose all your data or get a new phone! But most of the time the shutdowns start up again after a while.
I wonder if this is related to a common app? I know I use volume+ although it doesn't really seem to help.
I will try uninstalling it and then testing later this week.

My Nexus started doing this also about a month or so after I'd gotten it. I've seen it occur during two situations: 1) Using Google Navigation while driving (I have to say it sux to have your GPS crap out on you when your driving at high speed through a city you're not familiar with), and 2) when streaming any content and staying stationary.

So my take is that it happens when you have some type of high-traffic/streaming activity going on for more than about 10 minutes straight. I hope this is only software related and a fix will come soon.

I've had mine since Launch Day and today I had the first 2 Random Reboots while idling...Crazy stuff...Not really happy about this, so hopefully the next update fixes this

I've had mine since January 9th. It has rebooted 3 times since then. Just today I was in the middle of a text message and BOOM!!! All the beautiful colors....... Doesn't bother me though.

My girlfriends gnex reboots when she listens to Pandora. She turned off 4g so she could actually use her phone. So its not an LTE issue.

It kinda spazzed out, screen went black while using Draw Something today. But it didn't reboot.

Mine has shut itself off several times with no rhyme or reason. Required that I hold the power button down to get it to start again.

Had a shutoff or hang this morning. Screen blank, power button unresponsive. It took me about 15 minutes to think of trying a battery pull. That worked.

Are there any logs should I be looking in, to see if the system noticed anything going wrong before it died?

Only time my phone ever reboots is when I get a text and when I pull my notification bar it freezes halfway and reboots. Never happened with stock text. Seems like GoSms is the issue for me. Happens every 1-3 days.

I would have those random reboots until I pulled some apps. I've been told that apps shouldn't do this to an OS, but the proof is in the pudding.

So my latest reboots have been during the following (in no particular order and with no regularity):

Unlock to camera.
Launch camera app from home screen.
Launch Google Nav from home screen.

That third one was the real pain in the ass becuase I had it stuck to the windshield and ready to navigate. I've not had to pull the battery though. It's been rebooting lately (as opposed to just turning off like before).

I think my theory about it having to do with audio may be shot since there was no music playing at all during any of the above...

Yup, random shut downs have occurred on my Nexus also. Not that bad, but annoying when it happens. Wonder if its an overheating issue with the CPU (rogue apps maybe?). Its pretty much a random thing. Sometimes it shuts down when I use Pandora, or just sitting there when idle. That's why I think its more an app or deep layer OS issue.
