Galaxy Nexus with bad ESN as a dev device

Would it not be wise to buy a Galaxy Nexus with a bad ESN if my only intention was to use it was as a test device for testing roms?

Basically, my friend and I are working on a rom for the Nexus, but don't want to use our personal Nexus devices to test our builds for our rom.

I see that bad ESN Nexus' are cheaper, so it would definitely benefit my wallet.

I see no reason why not to use the device just keep in mind that the cellular portion of the device will not work.
