Galaxy Note 4 Battery

Thinking or hope it's just battery. My 2 year old Note 4 original battery dies at anywhere between 20 to 40 percent battery life. Was told might be a software issue. What's anybody else experience with this. If is battery what brand battery did you replace it with and are happy with it.

I ran into that problem about 6 months ago. My phone would shut down when it got to about 25-30% battery consistently.

I replaced the original battery with an Anker battery from Amazon for about $20 and my phone has been working normally every since.

For me this is the reason why replaceable batteries are so important. Had it been my wife's S6 I would have had to take it in somewhere to have the phone opened up and then hopefully put back together in one piece!

Thanks Chet, I'm going to look into new battery to hopefully tide me over till Note 8. Was going to get a Note 7 but that went poof, now waiting for Note 8. I'll miss my Note 4 for its removable battery.

The stock battery is just complete garbage. I got 2.5 hours on mine until it hit 50% and shut down.

Yes this happened to me. Fixed with new battery then after 6 months started doing it again with new battery. Got another battery and turned off fast charging and haven't had the problem since. I think fast charging damages the battery.

Although the battery issue can seem to be related to the "battery" it's actually an issue with the Note 4 system. Changing the battery will not relsolve it. It will seem to be a fix if you change the battery but, the system shannanigans will reappear. You'll have to factory reset it or replace the phone.

And, where exactly do you get this information from? What "shannanigans" do you think the Note 4 system has concerning power dropping out as described?

My Note 4 is 3.5 years old and I've seen this happen with spare batteries before. Change the battery and naturally the problem goes away... unless you happen to put another bad battery in there. This drop out issue is nothing new with lithium batteries... in any device. Or, do all devices have "system shannanigans"?

You need to change the battery every 18 months or so. It's just the nature of the beast.

Don't buy the cheapest, it'll be a fake. I also don't trust small retail shops/setups. They often sell counterfeit stock.

My local shops got hit by the Police in Scotland recently selling fake iphone chargers and leads. They took away a ton of stock. If it's a fiver, don't buy it....

I'm kind of giving up on my Note4 because of the battery life. I've bought 3 batteries over the 3.5 years I've had the phone. I have a Samsung charger that sometimes doesn't even work. I can put the battery in the charger and sometimes it doesn't charge - I've checked its plugged in well.

I am looking to buy a new phone and as we all know its pretty hard to find something with replaceable batteries. I am resolved to get something without that. I don't need the stylus and all the phones I am looking at from $200 on up seem to be about the size of the Note4 or bigger so I will at least have that large screen experience. For battery life I'll simply carry in my travel pack or pocket an extra little battery to plug in when needed and I'll be fine.

As I leave Note4 I am wondering what happened. I don't think it was that the batteries wore out and couldn't hold the charge. I think it was that the OS upgrades from Android/Samsung/ATT started to use more power to do new things and the management of apps and the apps themselves started using more functions, depending more on location services and wifi and what worked back in 2015 efficiently doesn't work as well in 2018 on a phone designed in 2015, and Samsung has no incentive to fix that.

Does that make sense?

Samsung admitted to me recently that the Note 4 has issues with it's batteries cutting out after a fairly short time. My current Battery cuts out at around 43%, previous battery was 25%.
My Note4 gave up recently due to MMC errors, that is the internal storage was worn out.
They said the Note4 was old and a motherboard replacement would cost £250. So I just bought a mint second hand one for £180.
I can put up with a new battery every year as it's much cheaper than a new Note(whatever).

Regarding your charger. Sounds like a broken cable or possible charger. My own charger is 100% the last 3 years. But then I don't move it.

I have 106 apps on mine. I use a black theme (uses less power) and wrote a script to turn off the screen when put in my pocket as Samsung phones screen come back on whenever a button is pressed. I too carry a wee 2000mA/H spare.

Mine usually cuts out @ 15%, but sometimes higher & sometimes it'll go to 0. Unfortunately Samsung quit making batteries and looking for a decent aftermarket but in the past a new battery always fixed the problem.

I too use a black screen - Always have although I have a clock app that I like that fades to black & gives a cool looking but very simple home page.

I'd buy a GN9 and probably would've bought a few GN's inbetween if it had a replaceable battery. (hello, Samsung?).

I have apps (maybe not 106) and keep a ton of stuff apps open all the time (embarrassed to say how many Chrome tabs I have open @ any given time, but it's in the hundreds).

I too hate that the screen turns on in my pocket. Would you be able to send or post the script you wrote & how/where to install it? Beyond my technical knowledge.

The app to do this power off the screen is called Automate. Once installed, go into its Flow Community (looks like 3 heads), tap on search and type in 'Pocket Off' look for the one by Stuart Halliday.
Once it's downloaded, open the script and tap on the privileges and tick it. Then run it. ??????
