Oh, burn! President Obama jokes about exploding Samsung phones to make healthcare point - GeekWire

President Obama dropped that line like it was hot.

In a speech in Miami on Thursday, while making a point about the need to fix, not scrap, his universal healthcare plan, the president referenced embattled tech giant Samsung and its explosive problem with the Galaxy Note 7 smartphone.

“When one of these companies comes out with a new smartphone, and it has a few bugs, what do they do? They fix it. They upgrade it,” Obama said, before chuckling and adding, “Unless it catches fire, then they pull it off the market.”

The line got a big laugh from the assembled crowd and video of it all was shared on Twitter by Politico’s Dan Diamond.

Obama continued his analogy by saying, “You don’t go back to using a rotary phone. You don’t say, ‘Well we’re repealing smartphones. We’re just gonna do the dial-up thing.’ It’s not what you do.”

Samsung issued a global safety recall of its flagship phone, and devices that were issued as replacements, after reports of phones smoking, catching on fire and exploding.

I'm sure you guys have seen this....jeez Samsung I get it you are butt hurt over the fact that everyone is now making jokes about the Note 7 fiasco but turning around and trying to censor all those jokes isn't going to help the situation one bit! Use the time you're wasting sending Google and various websites take-down requests to figure out what is wrong with the Note 7 and pay back ppl who suffered property damage from the Note 7 and stop wasting time on these useless claims. Ok end rant

They have to make the effort Shanda. Not just for PR, but under common practice and US law if a company doesn't make attempts to protect their trademark they can lose claim to it in the future. And its not like every person working at Samsung is needed to figure out what went wrong with the component design on the Note 7 to keep it from happening with newer models.

A buddy of mine who didn't want to give up his note 7 was on the farm with me having some beers after loading up my truck with firewood. As we are chatting he screams goes into his pocket and throws his phone out on the asphalt driveway. He thought his phone started on fire inside his pocket. Turns out a wasp went under his pant leg and bit him. He also cracked the phone when he threw it. Lol.
