5G tech brings > 1Gbps for 10,000 users simultaneously with < 1 ms latency. It requires new hardware in both the phones and in the towers.

What AT&T did was rebrand their LTE A as 5G e, which is not at all the same thing. LTE A is 100% still a 4G LTE technology.

If AT&T and experts agree that AT&T has NOT deployed a 5G network and is simply rebranding parts of their LTE-A network as 5G e, then we should take their word for it.

AT&T does NOT have a 5G network and no devices that currently exist in the wild are capable of running one, even if one existed. Those are both facts and are the exact two points I made earlier in this thread.

Here's one last bit directly from AT&T:

"How are we doing it? With enhancements like carrier aggregation to add more “lanes” to the highway that data travels on. 4x4 MIMO to double the number of antennas that can send data back and forth. And 256 QAM to make data transmission more efficient. All this adds up to faster speeds for you".

AT&T at it again. They did this crap with 4G.. Remember when they marketed HSPA+ as 4G just so they could be the first to call their network 4G when it was still just 3G "enhanced".

Well AT&T actually does have real 5G antennas up in some places already and it's actually rolling out a lot faster than most people think. So basically the 5G e that's now showing up on some newer phones you should just look at as a speed boost since none of them have a real 5G antenna inside of them. Now as far as Samsung goes their first phone to have a real 5G antenna will be the special 4th version of the S10. When it first releases there will be the light version with flat screen, regular S 10, and the S 10 +. Down the road the BEYOND X or whatever they decide to call it the S 10 ++ or something should have the real 5G antenna.

That's pretty much my thought... why the big fuss?? I mean I'm glad they are rolling out 5G but in the meantime, we have the hardware for LTE-A or 5Ge or whatever they wanna call it, if they wanna also push out 5Ge and give us faster speeds than we currently have then I don't care what they call it and am all for it. Keeps my Note 8 fun to use for another year lol.

Honestly, AT&T probably didn't even go through the hassle of deploying 5Ge... I mean there really probably wasn't that many phones that have the hardware. Only from time of S8 and on.
