Old Samsung Galaxy S Relay doesn't seem to backup to Google Drive. It says it's not backed up with a link to Backup Settings where it just let's me look at the settings but not actually create a backup. Maybe the device is too old or maybe I'm looking in the wrong place?

Ah. Would've been nice if they had mentioned that. XD Would there be other apps I could use to transfer messages & contacts?

I used to use the Relay daily ,but did transfer to other devices like the KODAK EKTRA which had battery issues...

You could try SMS Backup & Restore, but I'm not sure if that will run on Jellybean. The app description says it's been tested on Android 5.0 and up (which would be Lollipop).

Are you certain the contacts aren't saved to your Google account? Go to contacts.google.com on your computer browser -- do you see any of the contacts there? If not, then the contacts are likely saved to the local Phone account (or possibly the Samsung account). You could try exporting the contacts to a .vcf file, then importing them to your Google account: https://support.google.com/contacts...Platform=Android&oco=1#zippy=,from-a-vcf-file
