That's correct, swipe up on your home screen to show apps.

I believe there is an option to add an apps button to the home screen under Home Screen options. Press and hold an empty space on the Home Screen. Go into the settings and toggle it on.

Kizzy Catwoman is correct. Why in heaven's name Samsung would not have this button showing by default is a mystery to me, but there it is.

It was part of the move towards gesture navigation for all of Android (not just Samsung).
