Hi, I bought the S21U a week ago. For the first two days the phone was warming up from everything, now the warming issus has improved but it still warms up in a few minutes when I use the camera. (32-36 Normal usage, 41C+ in 2 minute of using camera) I exercised the warranty and got a new phone, but the same problem. This is known issus? Should i use the warranty again?

I have the S21 Ultra global, Exynos, model on stock, unbranded, latest Samsung firmware, AUBB for the U.K.

I ran a test for another user on a different forum. I took a 10 minute video, (screenshot #1), and at the end of it I monitored my CPU temperature. (Screenshot #2)

My starting temperature was 28C and it rose by 9C during the test. No Power saving mode on battery. UHD30 video.

Personally, I have never experienced any untoward overheating issues, even after benchmark tests such as 3DMark.

However, some users have reported overheating on camera usage on both Exynos and Snapdragon models, particularly on older firmwares. See, video...

Camera test indoors, 21C/70F, on the S21 Ultra global, Exynos, model on stock, unbranded, latest Samsung firmware, AUBB for the U.K. Using CPU Monitor, free from the Google Play Store.

Start temperature, 25C/77F

5 minutes of camera, (version 11.0.02.58), on Photo with zooming in and out.

End CPU temperature after 5min's, 33C/91F

So, an increase of 8C/46F in 5 minutes of camera usage on Photo, which seems O.K. to me.

Some users report a higher starting temperature which could indicate that other apps/settings are misbehaving in the background and using the CPU and keeping the temperature high initially.

Great results. Same firmware, 27C outdoor and i am getting 40-41 while start temp was 36c for some reason. Should i contact Samsung?

Hey, thanks for replay. See one comment above.

No. You're not experiencing an issue, you're experiencing physics.

I'm surprised they did a warranty replacement the first time. The customer service rep must have not known what they were talking about... Actually, I'm not surprised.

At the first time i got the same results +- when it was raining outside. I'm currently getting 38 degrees when shooting for 5 minutes. 23c indoor. Dose not the case with my S9+. under the same conditions with the S9+ i got 30-31c.

A start temperature of 36C indicates, as I mentioned previously, an issue with an app or setting that is causing your CPU temperature to be so high. I have just picked my phone up from my desk and took a quick reading after it has been at rest for a short while and I get 21C.

Can I suggest that you place your phone in Safe Mode and let it cool down.

Your phone will not run any 3rd party apps or settings and you will not be able to use CPU Monitor and so you will have to do temperature by feel.

As @fuzzylumpkin points out, it is a matter of physics as your at rest/start temperature is much higher than normal, 36C, but after camera usage it has only risen by 5C which was less than my test.

Did you by any chance use Samsung's Smart Switch to load up your S21 Ultra?

Phone to phone can vary , even same phone depending what's loaded on it , the temp of the phone going see variations depending what's going on , the only time I would be concerned if you get a consistent high temp no matter what your doing for long period of time. Usually first week or so you can see higher temp until things get adjusted but like the rest mentioned I don't think you have anything at this point to worry about.
