I got this phone a month ago, and even from the beginning I felt something was not okay. The phone heats up whenever I'm using it and its a bit unusual since I'm coming from a s8+ which in theory should be worse when it comes to heat. But in my case not at al this s22 heats up even when I'm just regulary using it, after about 30 minutes of on screen time the heat gets to a pont when it is unconfortable to hold the phone, when I use the camera, top back of the phone gets not warm but hot, I tried some games as soon as i boot into a game the phone has allready started heating. I've read some articles and forums stating that this phone does not have the best cooling solution but from what I've seen and read it shouldn't be even near what I'm experiencing.

It is the Exynos version.
I have heard that the Exynos models tend to heat up. As a test, just a test, consider turning on medium power saving to cut the CPU back 30% and see what difference, if any, you notice.

@bandofbrothers2112 Have you experienced this problem? Do you have any suggestions for this person?

Hi Laura.

No my Samsung Galaxy s²² Ultra 256Gb Exynos SoC isn't heating up.

It gets a bit warm when updating the software.

The phone is only at issue if the phone displays a message warning it will shut down.

That said it shouldn't be too warm to not be able to handle it.

I'd suggest >

Clear Cache Files from the phone's System Partition Section > https://forums.androidcentral.com/e...lear-the-cache-on-my-device%2F&token=EK8JKYI4 You may need to insert your earphones or hook upto a powered On Laptop to access the Clear Partition Section. This may help with lag or stutters as this clears the phone of old/unused or broken cache files. There is also a Repair Apps option in the Menu System too.

Then if necessary > Safe Mode > https://forums.androidcentral.com/e...-galaxy-device-in-safe-mode%2F&token=3QpTTIJD turns off downloaded apps and themes etc which may highlight an app or theme that's causing conflict.

As a last resort back up and factory reset and if that does not help send feedback via the Samsung Members App under the GetHelp section and perhaps let a Samsung Experience Store or Samsung Service Centre have hands on.

How's your cell signal? Poor signal can cause a phone to heat up a fair amount as it struggles to maintain the signal.

Another user had a heat issue and wound up returning and getting a replacement. Don't recall if they were on Exynos version though.

Yeah that was me. Mine was heating up to extreme levels while using the camera. Tech coach running diagnostics said it hit 109 degrees after the 4th photo. And at that time, it was almost hot enough to blister my fingers. Initially the sales reps in thr store didn't want me to exchange it when I first took it in, as they said it needed to learn my usage and learn to cool itself accordingly--they used arbitrary benchmark tests to try to justify their stance(note--these benchmarking tests they ran did not test the camera out, which was the source of my heating issue. However when it again ran hot, I called customer service and they told me to take the phone for exchange and told me to keep them on the line in case the reps didn't want to honor the exchange(was only about a week into the 30 day return policy ) she would demand they honor the exchange policy, and she sent them a diagnostic report detailing the extreme temperature I experienced. And noted rhat how fast it did so-- after just 4 pictures was particularly concerning.

Luckily have not had any heat issues at all with my second unit. Both my defective overheating unit and my current good unit run/ran the US/North America Snapdragon chipsets

My US unlocked heats up too at times. But it's not everyday though. Certain days it does and many times when it's about 90 degrees where I work. A few times I even turned it off to cool it down. Hasn't done it for a couple weeks ago.

Odd.

My S22 Ultra constantly heats up so bad that I cannot bring the device to meetings at my workplace. When I brought it in, people would ask what was burning. I've used several lighter cases on it, even my wife's clear case that hardly protects it. And it still stinks like it's catching fire. I am calling Samsung to see if I can get a replacement. I've cleared partitions, reset the device, done safe mode, all of it. And it still heats up. I would guess it's a hardware issue because it heats up with the sim card removed.

I've been lucky my phone hasn't really gotten hot so far... Warm at times but similar to my N20U. And past couple + weeks been traveling for work and using Google maps for hours at a time and no major heat issue.

Maybe quiet updates on later builds??
@Jr Burning smell sounds crazy and definitely excessive.

It is really interesting the differencein the Exynos vs the SnapDragon models where heat is concerned. I have experience with multiple S22U's and none of them have ever gotton "hot". Warm? Yes. Hot? No.

The only thing that seems to make mine heat up really bad is wireless charging. I have a quick charge phone holder/wireless charger I actually bought from Samsung. It makes my phone heat up quite regularly. Gets over 110F sometimes. Not sure what the cutoff for really bad overheating is but it seems quite hot to the touch.

Just a unfounded thought... But maybe it comes to the quality of the processor you have. I've heard that Samsung was having quality issues in manufacturing the snapdragon chip where their yield was terrible that they qualcomm has taken away business from Samsung to manufacture the chips.

So even though they still are able to make chips that pass as far as processing speed and within temp tolerances... Some could be on the high end of tolerances??

Some could have a Samsung made chip. Some could have a TSMC chip. I haven't had any heat issues so maybe I got lucky waiting a few months after production started and got me a TSMC chip ;) wonder if there is a way to find out... I guess not.

Very interesting. I didn't know Samsung was licensed to manufacture the SnapDragon. I thought they bought the Qualcomm SnapDragon from Qualcomm. I thought it was just their Exynos 2200 that they were having manufactured by TSMC. Well, maybe with $100,000,000,000 investment in its foundry business it can do better. ...sheesh, that's a lot of money.

Samsungs yield was 35% while TSMC yield was 70%.
