I am new to Samsung and Android, coming over from iPhone. In general, this equipment and platform blows the iPhone away, however, in two critical areas of daily use I find it deeply inferior, both having to do with hands-free use.
1) When driving and the phone is locked and in my pocket (keypad pin lock as is attached to a corporate account), and I decide I want to make a call using my bluetooth headset, I press the button on the headset. I get a satisfying s-voice beep tone, but s-voice cannot hear the input from the bluetooth headset. The only way to get it to work is to fish the phone out, manually unlock it with the code, and then use the s-voice. Ummm... that isn't handsfree and will get you a ticket in the states that require handsfree. No setting combination on the s-voice settings or bluetooth settings have solved this issue. Someone needs to dig into the code and enable the bluetooth mic and speaker when the button is pressed even when the device is locked. If there is a security concern about this, at least it should be a user selectable option. I'm by no means the first to experience this issue, I have found other threads on several forums. Hopefully Samsung will take note and DO something about this. It is an easy fix if they bother. Probably take someone who knows the S-voice code less than a day to do.
2) Again, an issue with bluetooth handsfree. Again, in the car and now listening to my music from the S3 over a bluetooth pairing to my stereo. Lovely! I now decide I want to make a phone call. Tapping the button on my paired bluetooth headset doesn't transfer the "attention" of the phone to that device!?! Heck, my ancient Motorola flip phone did that. My iPhones all did that. What is up with the S3? The phone should monitor for most recent button push of any paired bluetooth device and flip to using that one. Again, if in doubt, make this a user selectable option, but having to fish my phone out, unlock it using the pin, and then manually change the bluetooth device is just neanderthalic!
So. There it is, my single biggest gripe about the S3 after a week of living with it. Otherwise, what a wonderful piece of equipment!
I suppose I could ditch S-Voice, but is there another app out there that gets it all right? I do think this is the sort of thing that the phone should just come with... Am I wrong? Has someone found a way to make this work?
