Galaxy S3 - it says that memory is full while it isn't

It works if you have a large logcat file. Entries are made into t for various reasons, usually for problems. If you have a small file, it's not going to do much. I just dumped mine (to see how large it had been) and internal (on a 32GB phone) went from 23.02GB free to 23.03GB free.

Stephanie, it's not a scam. Since the early days of cellphones, there have been "hidden" menus that you could access by dialing numbers usually starting with #. I've forgotten most of them over the years (every manufacturer has a different set), but every time I run across one now I'm logging the number and what it's for, for which phone. What good are computers if they can't keep records for us?

I tried the # and my phone (Galaxy S3) just keeps saying 'we are unable to complete your call as dialed'. Any suggestions? I entered a 4 GB mini sd card recently and moved a bunch of apps off and deleted photos and I'm still getting the internal memory is full every few days.

I got that for about the last 3 months I ran my Precedent (an Eclair phone.) Now with 5 times as many apps on my Note 3 (and there's junk I downloaded just to see why someone was having a problem, and haven't deleted it yet), I still have over 23 GB free internally.

I'd be having troubles if I still ran Windows 95 with a 2.5GB drive too. Moore's law says that if we're really very lucky, a phone will last about 2 years (and we'll be crying for the last 6 months). Run a 3 year old phone and you won't be happy.

i had this too on my sgs3 and the #code didn't work for me because of being on custom rom.tried literally almost everything but the only thing that finally showed my true storage status was by formatting my internal sd card. had nothing special on it so i ventured it anyway... but if you have important stuff on it... backup.... after formatting.... jihaaaaa....there was my true storage status... finally! :)

Dialing *#9900# works! I only had 157 mb free on my S3 mini, then after inputting *#9900# and selecting "delete dumpstate/logcat" (second from the top) I now have over 4 gb free! Thanks!

Worked a treat!!! Have been going crazy for weeks with this problem. Now I Have my phone back again - THANK YOU!!
My SGS3 was plagued with this problem for months but I have finally found the answer on another forum. Basically it's a huge log file which keeps building up. The fix is incredibly simple after all that frustrating searching :)

"You don't have to root your phones to fix this problem. Just dial *#9900# on the phone and then select from menu - delete dumpstate/logcat. I tested this solution on my SGS2 and it works. "

Thanks for that advice as i can see its working to many people. But with me its different, when i dial that number, it doesn't bring anything at all but the screen just goes back to its normal dialing screen. What can i do please, i too have the same problem of memory. It shows it has an internal memory of 58.4G but it keeps on saying phone memory is full...Thanks in advance

I am having absolutely no luck with the code :( I take a lot of pics and video with my phone. Each time I cleared memory, I have less and less returned space after I deleted my files. I have less then 250mb in my phone. Any other suggestions or someone I can talk to?

The dial in number worked for me on a Galaxy SII. Couldn't even update the security package before but now all loaded up and all out of date apps loading nicely. Cheers mate, saved me hundreds.

Thank you so much. I registered to send this message but its worth it!

Can't believe android don't have built in notifications that notify the user when the log file is above a certain size with an option to delete old logs! Ridiculous and very disappointing.

It helped a little but it still says I am almost out of space-
Is there a way to get a virus off? this problem started yesterday ( I didn't add any program and deleted a ton of photo's and videos- Today if filled up completely .

To those for whom the number didn't work - it doesn't work on all phones, the question was about the S3.

For an antivirus, try Lookout, Avast or AVG.

You don't format the internal SD card, there's no reason to (and reason not to).

To all the thanks, you're all welcome.

i dialed *#9900# and choose delete dump files and with 30 seconds i gained all the lost memory about 3 gb..... it worked thanks i have s3 mini

I've been having the same problem with my Samsung galaxy s4 mini this year. Nothing listed on this forum has solved the issue! Please help me! I'm ripping my hair out! Thanks in advance!
