hi all,

I have an samsung galaxy S3 (International unlocked). Got about 6-7 months back with android 4.1.2. Ever since I downloaded the OTA update for 4.3 i find the phone gets rapidly heated when i turn on 3g and use apps like facebook and then the battery rapidly drains, like every 1 minute one percent reduces (sync gps etc are off). This never happened on 4.1.2. Should I download a different regions 4.3 stockrom and flash it to my phone and see if the same problems occur? If so which regions is the best? If there are no solutions to this I'm thinking of downgrading to 4.1.2, so which regions stock rom should I download and flash to the device? Mine came with the Indian one but I'd rather have a different countries rom.

Generally whats the difference in stock roms from different regions?
Ps- My phone has never been rooted or anything like that. It was neither unlocked (as the box piece came like that). I just use it to text, call whatsapp skype and the occasional game for a couple minutes.

Thanks in advance,
C

I'm not aware of a way to completely downgrade from 4.3 to 4.1.2 (due to the Knox bootloader component) but there was a hack for the Verizon version that allowed something like that http://forums.androidcentral.com/showthread.php?p=3408870 - perhaps you can see if there's a similar capability for the International version.

It's very strange that you're having overheating issues since 4.3 - they did update the radio component, but I haven't seen widespread reports of that specifically.

Have you tried a Factory Reset?
What about reloading the firmware manually using Kies v3 or Odin?

Re: S3 over heating and OS issues

Well I flashed 4.1.2 a while back and then upgraded it back to 4.3. I tried the factory reset a couple of times and yet nothing helped. So I was wondering which regions firmware is the best!

Re: S3 over heating and OS issues

I get the heating issue too all the time and I am a heavy user of my S3. I haven't fiddled with the phone because I don't know how to root it, and everyone around me is on an I phone. Ever since I have gone to 4.3 I have had issues, many issues to name a few, screen lag, un responsive apps or apps shutting down even after reporting it multiple times.

Could anyone please suggest something other than a factory re set. The heating of the battery scares me because I feel my battery is getting damaged due to no fault of my own.

Reporting the problem doesn't magically fix anything - it just lets the developer know that there's a problem. They still have to analyze the problem and release an update, which could be awhile.

No, actually a Factory Reset is probably necessary after the update. You can use the Kies software on your computer to backup a majority of the information on your phone (contacts, pictures/videos, SMS/MMS, call logs, TouchWiz settings, etc [don't bother backing up apps - there doesn't seem to be a way to restore them]).

Re: S3 over heating and OS issues

That is really sad. I have to do a re set. I did find a thread here that set about helping with the Wifi issue so I hoped something like that to.

I guess I better start the back up process.

I am never buying a Samsung phone again this is my first and last. I will buy a Google made phone. I have seen the nexus and Motorola phones and they work like silk. The UI is amazing even on older models.

Re: S3 over heating and OS issues

I used to have a similar problem as reported by OP and find out that the APN setting where, somehow, changed to use a 2g network, so when the phone was syncing any background data, it take a long time and the phone got very hot and the battery drained very fast. Hope this helps.

Re: S3 over heating and OS issues

I get this even when I am in wifi and data turned off. I just did hard reset and seems to not heat. Let's say it is day 1. Will report back.

No change in anything. Phone still exceptionally slow and inefficient. Still heats up and drains. I have removed alot of apps as well as gone into each one and set out to manually sync. The only auto sync is my email. Which i am not going to turn off, if I have to do this then i may add well buy a simple phone that doesn't offer anything fancy.
Very very disappointed by Samsung mobile technology.
