Galaxy S3: Text Messages + Ford Sync

Re: Text Messages + Ford Sync

I work with the Ford Sync system everyday and know which phones work with which features. Every month there are new issues with certain phones. The iPhone supported the texting features of Sync until early 2012. The recent software update to some iPhones now allows the texting feature to work again. I have had over a dozen iPhone users come to see me recently and their texting feature now works. The Synx texting feature will read a text message to you even if the vehicle is moving. You can text out from the vehicle but the vehicle must be stopped. There are 15 built in messages which you access on the screen. For vehicles with MyFord Touch you can even type in additional messages.

Re: Text Messages + Ford Sync

Sorry for digging up this old thread, but since there are so many questions about this issue, I'll dig it up so we can start beating the dead horse again.

I saw the option on my 2012 Focus SEL to send a message, but it never worked. One thing I missed is that MAP is turned OFF by default in my Gen 1 SYNC version 3.1.1. So, with my phone connected, I then went into the phone advanced options. The menu system for Gen 1 is a bit clunky, so many will MISS the advanced options and see the option to turn MAP on(or off). If MAP is not enabled, you shouldn't expect text messaging to work.

I just enabled it, and will test it later.

Cool, let us know how it works for you!

Re: Text Messages + Ford Sync

Confirmed that SYNC Gen 1 3.1.1 works properly with the Galaxy S3 complete with MAP support. The real trick is turning it on in the SYNC software, and also making sure you tell your phone to allow SYNC to access messages(don't ask again checked when you say OK).

Re: Text Messages + Ford Sync

Just ordered the Nexus 4. I'll report if MAP works with that. It did not on the Galaxy Nexus. Works perfectly with the GS3.

I have a gen 1 and cannot find MAP support in any of the menus. Couldn't find anywhere to turn it on. According to syncmyride.com I have 3.1 (2010 Fusion)

There is a system options that only shows up once you have paired the phone I think that allows you to enable it. I'll do a detailed walkthrough of how to find it in SYNC Gen 1 tomorrow(as long as my head doesn't explode due to work and family related stress).

Looking forward to your findings. I can't find it anywhere and I confirmed that I have the most current version of sync for my car

Sorry for the delay in getting back to this, but here you go:

Hit the phone button to switch to phone mode in SYNC
down arrow until you get to system settings
advanced
MAP profile
MAP profile on

Note that this is with Gen 1 3.1.1

I only have 3.1, so i'm guessing I don't have it. but i'll check.

Re: Text Messages + Ford Sync

In my 2010 Fusion Hybrid Sync would read my Droid Bionic text messages, but not my new GS3. My mom has a 2013 Edge with My Ford Touch and it will read the messages. Too bad that Ford has abandoned the original Sync System. Guess I'll just have to lease a 2014 Fusion Energi... :)

I have a 2010 Fusion and I now wish I could have waited for the 2013 model, really liking it.

Re: Text Messages + Ford Sync

You should also check over at SYNC Owner | Welcome to Manage SYNC and see if there is an update for your car. Ford HAS released updates for some vehicles and not others, and it isn't entirely about the year for what gets updated and what does not. I made sure to walk you through the menus for where it is in MINE, and it should be similar enough in the other Gen 1 3.1.x vehicles that if the option exists, it should be there. Make sure you have your phone paired prior to going into the menus, just so it is as similar an environment to mine as possible.

Re: Text Messages + Ford Sync

So did you have to do something special to get the texts to work? I have a 2012 Ford truck and the gs3 but mine won't read my texts.

Read my post about where in the SYNC system to find the option to enable/disable MAP. MAP is NOT enabled by default in SYNC Gen 1, even if it supports it. What version do you have on your 2012 truck?

Re: Text Messages + Ford Sync

Just picked up my 2013 Escape with My Ford Touch. Phone connects fine, downloads the phone book fine but will NOT support text messaging. According to SYNC tech support, MAP is on by default and no way to turn it off. My sync is version 3.5.1 (which i'm being told is most current) and I'm on Stock ATT on my S3.

Anyone get this to work? any tips/tricks?

Re: Text Messages + Ford Sync

Maybe it's just me, but maybe not worry about Text Messages while driving? It's not that important people.
