I updated to the new 4.2.2 last week and ever since my S4 battery has drained extremely fast. I have added no new apps. The only two items the battery meter shows is the Android OS (94%) and the Screen. I have had a very light day on the phone today and I am at 17% battery life. Before the upgrade I would have been in the 70% range. Is this caused by the new update?

Same here. I haven't found an answer yet. I have a weak 4G signal so I think that's part of it.

Is there a way for you to disable the 4g radio in the settings? Unless you happen to need 4g. If its not in the settings then I recommend looking for an app in the app store

I don't know if this will help but something I've been looking at lately myself when tweaking battery use. Try https://forums.androidcentral.com/e...zumapps.wakelockdetector&hl=en&token=CnYfBlxp, turn on advanced mode in the settings and then tap on Android System in both Screenlock wakelock and CPU wakelock to get a detailed breakout. My battery usage hasn't had a problem with this process, my biggest one is Google services but overall good battery life. Right now at 65% battery after 11.5 hours with 58 min screen time.

No. Verizon won't let you.

I personally find that stupid as its your phone but I guess that's what you have to deal with if your on Verizon. When I was on Verizon with the droid bionic I was able to turn off 4g in the settings

Yep. My old Thunderbolt I could also. I think even SG3 could. You could go into the network settings and pick. Now the only option is Global or LTE/CDMA.

download the Wakelock Detector app and let your phone run on battery a couple hours before opening it. That will tell you vital info about what is keeping your phone awake.

I had an app go rogue right after I got the update, too. Along with Wakelock Detector, I recommend GSam Battery Monitor. It will give you much better information about what's using your battery. Doing a factory reset after getting the update is a good idea, too.

If it doesn't matter if you take some time to figure out the overall issues, I highly recommend "Carat"- it's a project of computer science dept.(mostly post Masters') at Berkeley. With a quick opening of the app, which uses nearly no energy & does not run in background, it checks whatever is a major draw on the batter, makes recommendations re what to kill, get rid of, etc. & tells what minutes will likely be gained by each action.
They suggest opening the app each day when it takes a snapshot of the system. Over about 30 of those snapshots, (my experience with 1st phone-it took shorter time period than 30). it gives J-score which tells how you stack up compared with others of same phones. With RAZR, I started wit J-score of 27, I ended up with 72 after following their suggestions. Their support is amazing & the people responding have impressive education & get it! I've given just a snapshot & it does much more than described here. Forums are found in back after seeing the categories of apps that have bugs, are HOGS, or other issues- Forums are extensive but could be overlooked if last section is not scrutinized & scrolled to locate. Please give this a try! I have no connection other than user with Carat.
