My 4 day old Galaxy S4 mini was losing between 20%-40% battery life over night. Tried the basics GPS off, screen down to bout 40% and downloaded juice defender and enabled that last night and managed to lose 50% !!!!! From 55% to 5% in 9 hours idle overnight. Battery meter says 45% was the screen, not sure how this is possible.

Is my phone beyond help and i should send it back straight away?

Re: big overnight battery drain issue

Try installing Wake Lock Detector to see if something is making your phone partially wake up many times overnight, which could contribute to battery drain.

Also, how's the phone signal where your phone rests overnight? If the signal is lousy, your phone could be eating up battery as it struggles to get a signal.

Re: big overnight battery drain issue

thanks, i'll try those and see how i go, ive just disabled a bunch of syc options as well

Re: big overnight battery drain issue

Any luck with the battery so far? Mine seems to be losing way toooo much power with everything turned off. I am thinking of getting a batter with higher mAh from eBay. Not sure if it'll help but I feel like there's not much I can do..?

Re: big overnight battery drain issue

Disable all syncing so you only sync programs like email, Twitter, etc when you actually need to use them, switch off mobile data and wifi before going to sleep.

Re: big overnight battery drain issue

when i go to bed i switch off all sync and data feeds, also bluetooth and any running apps, this way my usage over night is between 4-5%, i only turn on wi-fi, bluetooth, gps, mobile data, when needed, i think im a light to average user, with bluetooth music, calls, wi-fi on only occassionaly through out the day, and my s4 mini lasts on average 2 days

Re: big overnight battery drain issue

I have the same issue. My battery drains 20-30% per night while EVERYTHING is off! And I mean everything...from sync to wifi, gps etc. Also, I put my phone on flight mode, so no signal either...and still it drains that much battery!
Strange thing though is if I restart my phone after I've charged it...it only uses about 3% per night.
If I don't restart it...20-30%!!!
Sooooo, I have to restart my phone everytime I charge it...what a nuisance!
Anyone else noticed the same problem? Or know why or how to fix it?

You should flash another rom with Odin. Some rom's have this problem with huge battery drain in stand-by mode.

Re: big overnight battery drain issue

I had the exact same issue today at work. Battery went from 100% to 63% in about 2 hours, the reason was I had open Skype and left it activated with thewireless network. Foryour case, try activating WiFi over night see if it stops the battery drain.

In my experience the stops seeking for a data conexi?n when connected using wife instead of a wireless 3G connexion. Especially in areas with bad coverage like where I live.

Try to add an external battery and see whether that is draining as fast as the stock battery. If it does, either you didn`t close every unnecessary feature, either the phone should be returned

Re: big overnight battery drain issue

The battery of my Galaxy S4 mini drops overnight frm abt 30 % to maybe 5 % or sometimes 1 %, while the phone is totally SWITCHED OFF ...
I bought it about 5 months ago.
Did anybody have similar problems ?
I sleep in a cold room (12? C) ... can this play a riole ?

I also wonder if this is a battery problem or a phone problem.

Thhanks on forehand for all help

I don`t think the degrees in your room might be the issue. I took my S4 mini on the moutain, working at -4 temperature and it resisted quite well:)

I had this same problem, tried many things for a few days. The battery drain was really annoying and I was ready to return the phone. Then after a few factory resets, I noticed that the GPS was ON without ACTUALLY being on (I saw it in the Battery settings). Both from GPS button and from Location services - it was OFF. I got suspicious that some app is trying to use location without me even knowing and without any indication (tried Battery Doctor, GSam, wakelock detector, etc). I started turning Off apps like Maps, some other stupid services running on the phone. Also - checked my facebook settings and turned everything off for the test (sync, notifications, location). Not sure what exaclty fixed the battery drain, but you can try it. Hope it helps.

Re: Galaxy S4 Mini: battery drain issue

I have a new Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini and the battery is draining. I shut it off at night and charge it. This morning I went for a walk and an hour later there was a message that I needed to plug it in. Help please.

I have battery issues too. My phone loses 30-40% overnight. Sometimes I find it completely dead and have to plug it in and it shows 0%. Then when charging it jumps from below 10 to 40%. Tried calibrating, bought a new Samsung battery but the same problem. Now wherever I travel a long distance n might be away from a charger I carry an extra battery. How annoying 😢😢😢😢

Yes, I had the same issue. I have been using my S4 Mini Duos since 18 months. Earlier the phone had issues with Stock kernel, the OS was using too much of battery on Sleep mode, triggering unnecessary events and apps constantly. I had to replace it with a custom kernel (I don't remember the name). After the Kitkat update I received in August, the battery drain problem was somehow rectified, but not fully.

Irrespective of the OS, Follow these instructions..
Turn off the "Location" and "Auto Sync" when not in use. Same goes for Bluetooth. Google Search is one of the biggest battery drainer. Turn that off Install WakeLock Detector to detect rouge apps which frequently waking the phone from sleep. Google for more details about WLD.. Don't bother to uninstall unnecessary and troublesome apps.. Don't use RAM freeing or App killing apps.. If you follow these instructions, you might get extra 20-30% endurance.

I rooted my phone and installed Greenify donation pack (also Xposed installer) to hibernate the apps instead of killing or freezing it, have installed WakeLockDetector.. And also installed System Tuner Pro to take care of the unnecessary "auto starting" apps and the CPU Governer to set as "On Demand". After this, I don't have much problems. My battery drain was just 8 to 10% during 8 hours sleep..

Now I have around 100 apps installed besides system apps, 15-20 apps runs in the background constantly.. My Wifi and Data turned on 24X7..
Now My phone drains around 25% during same 8 hours sleep.. On an Average usage, it lasts 12-15 hours (100% to 20%).. I plug my phone to charger whenever the battery reaches 20% mark or before I go out. It's an old fact that not to charge your phone before it hits 10% mark.. You don't have to keep the phone off while charging.. It doesn't apply to Lithium Batteries like ours.. You can charge your phone whenever you need and make sure the battery percentage doesn't go down below 10% and the temperature doesn't remain above 50%.. Too much of heat is a killer and deep cycling is little harmful.. I heard it slowly degrades the life of lithium batteries.

I hope you would find my suggestions helpful.
