Hey guys, I just updated my S4 (I9500) to 4.4.2 and have been having intermittent issues with screen rotation :(
First noticed when snapping a picture (in landscape mode) straight from Whatsapp (portrait mode), when picture has been taken and sent, whatsapp is stuck in landscape until I press home and reopen.
Then after restarting and checking if my settings were alright, the screen refused to rotate at all, for any app. The camera is the only one that still detects the rotation, as the shutter button changes orientation with the screen.
Has anyone had any similar problems?

I have the same problem.

Everything was working fine, and after I delete a few apps with Titanium, the rotate does not work.
I tried sensors with an apps, and the sensor are physically working, but the rotation does not work.

I know if I reset the whole phone, It will work, as I already met the problem, but I would like to know where it comes from, to prevent reinstalling everything every week.

Please have a look at this post for more details: android - unregisterIRListener() is called & screen stop rotate - Stack Overflow

It's as you say, some app deleted with Titanium was what stopped the rotation from working. I flashed stock again and deleted only the Russian bloatware, didn't touch any of the Samsung apps, and it's doing fine now.

Hey guys,

Reset your camera settings and everything will go back to normal.

WEIRD!

Resetting camera settings does not work for me. I had rotation for everything I was viewing. Now *nothing*.
Is this a Samsung bug?

Man I HATE when someone is so darned sure of themselves. Thanks for you self-confidence. Its empty. FAIL

Hi, Jennifer.
Check your orientation lock. When you swipe down from the top (Notification shade) there is a set of icons at the top. One should be "screen rotation" or "orientation lock" or similar. Make sure this is highlighted. If it wasn't then that is your problem. Good luck.

I noticed people are still posting here with this problem. I found out the reason the rotation stopped working was some system apps that I deleted when trying to debloat. My solution was to install the latest INS firmware from sammobile, as it is unbranded, has the least amount of bloat and works great. Cheers~

its works for me, I reset the camera setting then reset the phone.
I think its my baby did something with camera setting, he loves to play with camera.

Sorry for bring old thread back from the dead. For what it's worth I had this same problem on my AT&T GS4 (i337), which I just resolved by rolling the OS back to 4.4.2 (Build NB1 on AT&T). It stopped working in 4.4.4 and upgrading to Lollipop 5.0.1 did not resolve it either.

What's more, 4.4.2 doesn't seem to have this dumb restriction about placing files on the SD Card.

I ran into this problem too after removing bloat with titanium. I believe I narrowed it down to the system app(s) that's causing it too. Rotation seems to stop working after you remove the 2 Facebook system apps. Not FB, Messenger, or Pages manager, but the actual system apps (com.Facebook.system, and com.Facebook.app manager). Only way I've found to resolve it is to restore those files via backup or simply reflash the rom.
